Poll question: To live abroad...
We're thinking by 2009 any of these will do.

2. Italy is my absolute dream. And that was before *.
I still want to move there. I hope I can pull it off someday. I've been doing some research. It won't be easy. On the other hand, I can take a one hour drive and end up in Mexico. It's very affordable, and unlike Italy, you don't have to jump through a brazillion hoops to be allowed to live there.

(That's only the second time I've used the word 'brazillion.' I'm counting. )

8. New Zealand
English speaking, very liberal, in the Southern Hemisphere, kinda far away from the rest of the crazy world if something really bad happens and no snakes.

16. Agree
Good climate, close enough to US to visit easily, large expat community. I don't believe they tax retirement income.

12. My vote isn't there. Besides being EU cit, I'm spoiled for choice!
I'd happily go back to the UK, if I could afford it. Costs too much like a first world country to me.

But if you really need to get away, NZ I can recommend. Never been there personally (my sister has) but from sounds of things it's far enough away and more liberal minded than here.

Mark.

15. Go to one of the EU nations.
That way, when I visit, it's easier for me to stay (assuming I declare dual citizenship).

I've always thought Barcelona would be nice. ;)

21. New Zealand
I have only visited the North Island though. That said it was very beautiful. The people are laid back and friendly. The entire nation only has about four million people.

The view from my hotel Bay of Islands NZ.

You can find cheep air fare this time of year. Both Air New Zealand and Qantas have deals to NZ for about $700.00

Qantas

If I had to chose a large city to move to, I would choose Amsterdam. Most everyone speeks English. Great places to eat drink and umm whatever.
