Flu Shots are Evil
Everyone I know who has received a flu shot has immediately gotten deathly ill. And yet we're still encouraged to get one, even though this year's shot doesn't match this year's strain. What's the dilly-yo?

1. Hey
You aren't supposed to question vaccines, just accept them.

2. I agree.
I've only had one flu shot in my life and NEVER AGAIN!

It was the only season I got ill. I practically lost my hearing in one ear.

Jeez-oh-man!!!

10. Perhaps I was being melodramatic.
What it actually did was wait a few days and then my left ear started hurting off and on. Then the hearing went in and out. This lasted about 6 weeks. Then I was fine.

(so the deaf business was hyperbole...sorry)

4. I don't know anyone who has. It's a DEAD VIRUS.
Edited on Thu Dec-04-03 05:32 PM by MissMarple
But the vaccine takes 2-6 weeks to become fully effective. And because the virus is closely related to what a lot of people are getting it ameliorates the effects of the illness.

5. I get one every year
And have never gotten sick afterwards. The flu shot cannot cause the flu. If you got sick afterwards it was a coincidence, or you have an egg allergy.

22. I feel achy for a few days afterward,
which is an unusual reaction, but not an infectious one. Still, that beats the flu by a long shot. I have had the flu in years where I’ve had the shot, but only once or twice. I am a believer.

7. I used to work in a hospital and had to get one every year.
Last time I had the flu was the last time I got the flu shot. I know it's a dead virus, but it sure didn't seem that way to me.

9. my friend got it and he's fine...however...
...I think the dilly-yo is some kind of fund-raising B.S. for the drug companies. The reason I think this is, we went to the same clinic and saw the same doctor to get some travel shots. I was told there was no need for a flu shot, so I didn't get it. HOwever, my friend, who is very well-to-do was sold over $400 worth of shots, including the flu shot! I think they just saw a big wallet and figured they would empty it?

He had no bad reactions but I'm amazed he didn't turn into a pin cushion after having so many shots at one time.

12. I haven't gotten one this year. I have not yet been sick.
Edited on Thu Dec-04-03 05:38 PM by BiggJawn
Every year for the past 5 years I have gotten a flu shot. Every year for the past 5 years I have come down within 5 days with some kind of upper respiratory/flu-like malady that has put me in bed for 3 days the past 2 years.
Now, as a Diabetic, one of the groups cautioned to never miss getting a shot, do I get one and guarrantee myself 3 days feeling like shit? or do I play the odds that I won't catch the flu and stay out of bed this winter...
Yes, I know it's "dead" virus, and no, I have no egg allergy.

Somethings you don't need a fancy education to figure out.

16. 28.
I'm in excellent health. But for some reason, the flu makes me sicker than it makes most other people.

17. LOL...sorry. It's just that...
in my experience "seniors" always swear by the flu shot. But all the youngsters I know either don't get them or it makes them sick as a dog.

18. A few years ago
I got the flu really bad (actually that was probably the fifth consecutive year I had a really bad flu). I had a high fever, and I fainted face-first into a piano. Almost lost a couple of teeth. Ever since then, I make sure to get the flu shot ASAP. And it makes a difference. Some years I still get sick but it's nowhere near as sick as I got before I started getting the shots.

19. I get a flu shot every year
and I've only once gotten ill - they admitted that year they accidentally administered a faulty dose to about 2,000 Boeing employees. The absentee rate went through the roof. ;-) But most flu vaccine administered now is killed virus, which cannot cause illness.

20. Got a flu shot last year and this year...I am a-OK fine...
And, as has been pointed out below, it is a dead virus.

Perhaps the Busheviks are adding docility chemicals, but...no, we have TV so they're covered there...

as strong as a horse! My arm felt better than it had in weeks! Seriously, though, I think flu shots are great!
