Predict The Future

I'm under no illusions that the USA will last forever. Given that, what do you believe will happen to the land that is now occupied by the USA?

I believe the country will eventually breakup into several smaller counties. I could see the South forming one (conservative), the New England states another(liberal), Texas another(conservative), the Mid-West and Plains states another (moderate), California & Oregon & Washington another (liberal), etc.....

What do you think will happen?

Now, I'm not really interested in "how" it will happen or what the causes were or which political forces or cirmstances will cause whatever to happen. I just wanna know how it'll all be divided up (if you think it will be) and how it will look politically.

Watch the great movie "Network" and you'll learn that nations are already a fiction. We are ruled by corporations. Much of the Democrat versus Republican fighting looks like Microsoft versus Apple. In the end, the rich rule.

5. No, Thank You

I don't believe that nations are a fiction, that we're ruled by corporations, or that the world will become like "Rollerball" and the great Jonathon E. (James Caan) will come save us from the corporate meanies. If I wanted that conversation, I go to my local Indymedia where I could discuss how the Mossad used romote-controlled planes to bring down the Twin Towers.

3. not sure BUT if it hapens I hope for some cool fallout kind of thing

If anyone played Fallout2 you know what I'm talking about.. also I'm CRAZY about post apocalyptic movies like the postman..

Anyway I'm sure the states would become own countries.. maybe some would form some kind of united states but not all of them.


Also some of the larger cities would probably be self sufficient.

Also I'm not at all ruling out some civil wars in places like Texas between fundie christians and the rest

6. I see the future

North America is now basically 3 main countries (Canada, America, Mexico) (yes I know there are other small countries in Central America and Carib Islands)
But you have 3 main countries.

Sometime in the next century, the Northeast U.S. will join with the Northeast and central Canada, including Michigan, Minnesota. A sort of Atlantic/Great Lakes/Eastern Canada country of moderate liberalism.
Secular, low military budget, free health care for all, gay marriage.

In the South, from Texas to Kansas to Florida to Virginia will be the New Confederacy. School prayer mandatory, Christianity the state religion, Nascar the official sport. Abortion and gays illegal. Huge military to eventually invade the North during the 3rd Civil War of 2099.

In the West will be a third country we'll call Potlandia, roughly San Francisco to Reno to Portland to Seattle to Vancouver and all of Western Canada and Alaska will be a form of libertarianism. Small Government, huge Hemp industry, Secular, but with equal rights for all. Small military, big Navy.

In the SouthWest, from Los Angeles to Arizona to New Mexico, all the way down to Mexico City will be the new land of Aztlan. The Latino homeland of properity and huge agriculture businesses. A moderate form of socialism, medium military, religious, but no state religion. Hollywood moves to Vermont in 2067, after the Fall of Los Angeles.


So, basically 4 countries where we have 3 now.

7. Well, for that to happen, YNGW

the US as a country would cease to exist. We would have to be in a holocaust of some kind before it would break up.

Let's say an atom bomb is dropped on the White House; Kim Jong Il finally gets his wish. Or an earthquake hits, or the BIG ONE, a meteorite 5 miles across hits smack into the plains of South Dakota and we are toast. The US is now in a state of anarchy or a pseudo police state.

My guess is that the US would divide itself up along geographical boundaries. For example, the Sierra Nevada would be one dividing line because of its massive size. I think you're right that regions which are already now their own "countries" or regions, will simply become countries unto themselves.

I would say transportation will be a big issue. If oil is still around (my hunch: it won't), then the countries will become separate entities and will close in on themselves and consider any "outsiders" as dangerous enemies who must be attacked.

If transportation is still available, we will of necessity be more connnected, and there will still be plenty of interaction and commerce like "in the old days".

8. There will probably be a series of feudal states arising after the plague

It's odd to think that such political divisions can be predicted without consideration of what forces created them but they will be centered around rural areas and wildlife sanctuaries. Originating from the overuse of antibiotics, the plague will decimate most of the world's human, canine and feline populations. It's too late to go into more detail now.
