I CAN'T FIND MY WEDDING RING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, I am freaking out. My engagement ring AND my wedding band are missing. They were sitting on the top of my entertainment center, and now they are gone.

They are not in any of the usual places (the only places I ever leave them have been pored over and over and over).

So, the only possibities are that:

1) For some reason, I put them in a super-secret safe place and forgot about it.

OR

2) My sister, who has recently started moving out and is the only person other than myself who has been in my apartment in the past day and a half (the last time I am absolutely certain I was wearing the rings was Wednesday evening, and when I got home I put them on the ent. center)... stole them.

There are no other possibilities--I haven't left the house and left the door unlocked, I haven't had anyone else in the house, and I haven't worn them since the other night.

What the hell do I do????????????????????

2. That's the problem--I do remember where I put them, and they...
aren't there. I mean, aside from the sentimental value, those rings were worth about $700 altogether, and that's not chump change in my house.

I am so frazzled, I don't even know what the hell to do...

6. That helps, lol.
I know no-one can help, but I definitely needed to freak out publicly...

Okay, time to start middle of the night crawling all over the house looking for them...

7. Katherine, I am so sorry to hear this.
And I hate to say it, but knowing what has been going on with your sister, (from your earlier posts,) my first thought was that she might have taken them. I know she has money problems. And that she was mad at you. Have you been home ALL the time since Wednesday evening? Was her boyfriend there helping her move? Or any of her friends? I don't know how you can force the truth out of someone, but that's where I would start. If you just misplaced the rings, I think you would have found them by now.

Again, I am so sorry. I know you have a lot on your plate right now.

8. I think I would have too...
I am very careful about where I put them--and they are not in those places or anywhere near those places.

She was here alone, for about 10 minutes, and I had just woken up--so I was in the middle of changing my daughter's diaper and getting her dressed and ready for breakfast... so anything could have happened, I have no idea...

I just rechecked everywhere they could be and a few other places and they are just not here.

I can't decide if I am sad or really really angry...

9. I'm sure you've already done this, but I'm going post it anyway -
did you look on the floor, behind the place where you put the rings? Maybe they fell/were knocked off somehow and are on the floor between the furniture and the wall? Just a thought. Wish I could come help you look for them.

And I'd be both sad and angry. At the very least, call your sister and ask her if she "saw" them when she was last at your place. Let her know how upset you are. (Upset as in "the rings are sentimental") and play on her feelings a bit. Hey, you have to do what you have to do. Don't accuse her or anyone else. Just plant the seed of your being so upset that "you lost your rings." If she did take them, hopefully her guilt will kick in and the rings will mysteriously reappear after her next visit.

11. Here's a tip: put out the lights and put
a torch on the floor, pointing sideways. Any objects hidden until then will cast a long, large shadow, making them easy to see...

You still there?

12. I sure hope you find them
and that they have not been stolen. I would be heartbroken if I lost my wedding ring (especially since it was my mother-in-law's wedding ring originally).

13. Go to the room that you last remember having them.....
Now take one deck of cards and flip/fling them in the air. Now proceed to pick all of them up so as to make a complete deck once again. Once you have collected all of the cards you will have found your rings or ruled that place out.

The key is that some cards will land somewhere you never would have checked.

Once you have gone through your home you will have found them. Otherwise that * owes you an explanation and a bunch of loot, or the rings.

17. I think you need to ask your sister if she's seen your wedding rings.
If you know her very well, you might be able to tell if she's lying, by her physical response.

18. Do you have cats?
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 09:19 AM by ocelot
Assuming you can rule out your sister...

When stuff mysteriously goes missing it's almost always because of cats. That's not to say the cats took your rings and pawned them to buy catnip, but they might have discovered these bright, shiny objects and swatted them into a corner where they're hard to find. Look in places where you'd expect to find forgotten cat toys. Works for me, anyhow.

19. Do you have any little decorative boxes?
I've been known to put rings in any of the little knick-knack boxes that are around here...

Try also looking all around the entertainment center, including underneath the TV, stereo, etc... Maybe you could ask your sister to help you...that way if she took it, it'll give her a chance to reflect on what a shitty thing it is to do to your own sister.

20. Go through your trash
If someone wanted to be mischievous, one way would be to throw the rings into the trash or garbage. Or somewhere else in the house or outside.

Just trying to come up with some different ideas.

Hope you find your rings.

23. That is wonderful!
First question: WHERE in God's good name were they?

Second question: Why did you take them off? My wedding ring almost never leaves my hand......And for my right hand rings, I have a ring holder......

I am so happy for you!

27. Ah...
I have this Burt's Bees Herbal Spray Deodorant stuff, and the rings were put around the top squirty part of it... I have absolutely no idea why I would have done this--but they were right in one of the places where I usually keep them, I just never looked ON the bottle.

Go figure...

28. At least they were somewhere where you would have eventually
discovered them! I tend to do the 'super secret' hiding place on myself at times. So 'super secret' that sometimes stuff is forever hidden.

So glad you found!!

26. Yeah!
Where did you find them? I don't wear mine at night and I lose them way too often. My husband finally bought me a ring holder and I put them on that in my closet EVERY time I take them off. I haven't lost them recently.

I'm glad you found them and I know that scared feeling when you can't find them.
