1. So far it's holding my interest.
But it's a lot different from the old series. Right now a guy is apparently about to be devoured by a trash bin.

2. I will say the 'classic' feel is obliterated... but I can also say
later episodes do, all things considered, improve by leaps and bounds...

3. the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation showed them a while back
(the 2005 episodes)
I don't want to post any spoilers, so let's just say that things have gotten a bit more pointedly political! There always have been Dr. Who episodes which looked at incompetence or mendacity in high places, but this time they name names (almost!).

I like the new series, but in a different way from the old one (which I admit I watched from a teenager's point of view).

5. You've GOT to love it when they address the age old 'Stairs'
cognitive-locomotive problem (yes I've kept that opaque so it won't spoil O.K.)

That's in a later episode, (and I won't spoil anything but I will jog memories by saying) that bit when they're in that museum on earth... remember that... it was a great moment!

7. They resolved THAT problem back in 1985:
"Revelation of the Daleks".

Though in the story you speak, they do make a few astonishingly good innovations...

12. Better PM me...
:D

And I won't spoil anything the new series does that's actually new - again, of which there is some that really is new. But for the 1985 blurb, I will spoil it because it's been known to most for 20 years. :D

13. I watched it last year.
Enjoyed it immensely, but I lacked the "baggage" that a lot of devotees of the show carry.

It was the first time I'd ever seen (or even read about) Doctor Who.

21. Hmmm...
It's not a matter of baggage.

It's how the show presents itself.

Plus, adding in elements from the old show (e.g. the Autons), it makes that baggage relevant.

The new series has some good episodes, yes. But it does make a mockery of the classic series when it's not trying to do a parody of it.

My main problem is in the writing; it's the first era of the show (the 9th Doctor era) that doesn't take itself seriously when it should. The comedy in particular is all wrong...

26. I don't mean baggage in a bad sense
It's just that you guys carry a ton of expectations (entirely fair expectations) being familiar with the show's long history.

I just feel it necessary (when giving my opinion on the show) to let people know where I'm coming from.

14. I enjoyed it
I got hooked back in 1985, went to a few cons, have some autographs of the various Doctors & Companions (including Patrick Troughton's which I got the night before he died at a con in Georgia).

So far, I like this new version! :7

But, if the Doctor is the only Time Lord left, does this mean we won't see the Master or the Rani? Ever?

15. I liked it
watched the two eps on tonight. Like that it's a little darker. Don't like that the special effects are good though... Some shows just cry out for styrofoam and string and Dr. Who is that show.

16. Dunno yet...
I'm still spoiled by the old pieplates-glued-on-the-wall Tardis and them having to "make do" with writing and acting 'cause they couldn't afford decent effects. Or costumes-- I loved the plant pot helmets.

The effects didn't gross me out as much as I was afraid they might, and I like the characters, but the opening two plots were derivative, hackneyed, and, well, just plain annoying. The second much more so than the first, which did have its moments. Seen it all before, and better. The second one did seem to try to dazzle us with effects after they ran out of plot gimmicks. Wotta waste of a perfectly good SF cliche that could have gotten much better treatment.

I like this Time Lord and Lady, and hope they get the writing together later on, although some of you already know about that. I also want to see a damn good backstory if this Doctor is to be the last of his kind.

Oh, and did they forget about those regenerations the Doctor used to have?

18. No they have not forgotten about the regenerations .
That will be interesting to see the Ninth Doctor regenerate into the Tenth Doctor . I never watched or had any interest of " Doctor Who " until tonight and now I am hooked .

17. Having seen the entire series (thanks to BitTorrent)....
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 12:53 AM by MathGuy
the Dalek is *good*. A "scary, badass Dalek" as one reviewer put it, as opposed to the slightly ridiculous motorized dustbins from earlier series.

The highlight of the series is the two-parter "The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances". An ingenious premise, as well as spooky and scary.

Some of the episodes, OTOH, are pretty ridiculous. "Boomtown", and "Bad Wolf", for example.

19. I liked episode one alot. Rose is fracking hot.
Episode two freaked me out a little bit with - I think her name was cassandra. All in all I liked it and Ill watch for the whole stretch of the series. I think Christopher Eccleston (sp) has the makings of a great Doctor.

20. Is this Doctor supposed to be the last regen?

I enjoyed it for what it was, always hated breaking in new Doctors so would take a couple of episodes before I decided to like the new one hehe.

Nice to have the TARDIS back though, will K-9 make a re-appearance? hehe

22. I've seen them all before courtesy of
bit torrent and I loved Chris Eccleston as the Doctor. Rose is a good plus one because she chose to join the Doctor instead of being dragged along. Another thing I like about Rose is that she has spunk and is not afraid to take on the galactic bad guys.

23. Was it good?
And will they be re-airing it?

I had to go to sleep early last night. I had the worst headache that made me vomit and made every noise in the house loudly echo until I felt like I was kicked in the head. I guess I need to have it checked out.

That was the only way I was going to stay away from Who last night!

24. We watched it with our eight year old last night.
She loved it, and that's the only real test for me. I watched it a lot in the early eighties. Of course, Tom Baker is the Doctor, and Romana was the Companion. (Although Sarah Jane Smith was pretty cool, too.)
