3. Holloway
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 09:16 PM by Jamastiene

Origin Displayed: English

The ancient roots of the Holloway family are in the Anglo-Saxon culture. The name Holloway comes from when the family lived as inhabitants at the hollow-way or holy way. Holloway is a topographic surname, which was given to a person who resided near a physical feature such as a hill, stream, church, or type of tree. Habitation names form the other broad category of surnames that were derived from place-names.

Spelling variations include: Holloway, Hollway, Holoway, Hollaway and others.

First found in Somersetshire where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D.

Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: Dorothy Hollway settled in the Barbados in 1663; with William her husband; William Holloway settled in Maryland in 1775; Eadie Holloway settled with Elizabeth and Joe in Virginia in 1635.

21. I'd love to, but all the ones I find
for McAlister refused to be hotlinked. If someone else can be bothered finding one, please, feel free to post. :P

Might have something to do with the amount of beers I've consumed, but being a heritage threads and all and with me being Scottish, I suppose it's only expected. :D

25. ours

The prestigious surname rodriguez originated in Spain, a country which has figured prominently in world affairs for hundreds of years. The name is patronymic in origin, deriving from the name of the father of the initial bearer, and its roots can be traced back to the Visigoths, the Germanic tribe who ruled Spain between the mid-5th and early 8th centuries. rodriguez is derived from the Germanic personal name "Hrodric," which is composed of the elements "hrod," meaning "renown," and "ric," meaning "power." Thus, the name rodriguez combines this personal name with the patronymic suffix "-ez," and refers to "a son of Hrodric."

Father's side: Culver

Mother's side: Kindle(that's a hard one-there are variations. Turns out they'd get into fights and change the spelling of their name to piss off the rest of their family so there are many different spellings of the name now but all come from the same line.)

It's an old shield. The main beasts are two lions with their tongue hanging out holding a heart. A little crown above the shield. The same one is cast in iron on a big ole tower in Vienna. ;)
