22. Forbidden Planet
Amazing! That was the first movie that came to mind. I never get tired of that one. And Day the Earth Stood Still would be right up there too. Casablanca, yep and LOTR, oh yes.

Never have seen Great Escape though. Must rent it since your recommendations are so aligned with mine.

We must share some distant DNA.

30. Very cool
... The Great Escape is pretty much my "war" movie and the first Steve McQueen movie (although he's only one of a big cast)

It's different from the others I've listed but a very good story and interesting characters (based on a true events, roughly anyway)

that I haven't seen again in years is The Guns of Navarone with David Niven. I can even remember the words to the theme song - Islands of Greece are green and beautiful...

Remember the leg lamp? How could you not! In Dec around the holidays we were driving home at night and on the way I saw one. Yes "the lamp or leg or whatever" for real. I freaked. I actually turned around to get a second look. It was on full display in the front window just like the movie.

42. If by "chick flick" we mean, film that empowers females, then hell yeah!
A lot of people found it redundant and cliche--I found it a wonderful addition to the genre. It managed to show that having the freedom to make choices in our lives means we can make whatever choice we want (particularly notable with Julia Stiles' character), not just the ones that were fought for by the women who came before us.

It made me feel really good about staying home and taking care of my daughter, something that a lot of my friends think is insane. 50 years ago, I wouldn't have had a choice--I would have had to stay home regardless of what I wanted. Instead, I was able to make that decision for myself, and I believe it has been a more fulfilling experience because of this.

Now I am trying to decide if I want to watch Circle of Friends or Mona Lisa Smile after Wife Swap... btw, they should totally change the name of this show, because I love it but the name is so icky...
