DU guitarists- I have a question about pickups.
I have an Epiphone G-310 (the lo-cost SG knockoff) with two open-coil humbucker pickups, and have come to the realization that the tone is shite. I'd love to get a whole new guitar, but money is an issue. What brand/style/etc of do you recommend? Currently, the G-310 has a very "heavy metal" tone to it that I can do without. I'd like to get something that that has less low-end when playing clean, yet not as metal-sounding when using distortion. I know what I want to hear, but I'm having a difficult time putting it into words.
Thanks for your help!

1. Sounds like you want a Strat-style humbucker...
...rather than a Gibsonish "soap bar."

3. Pretty much.
When I bought my Epi, I was at the tail-end of my stoner/riff rock phase. I want something a little more versatile now (especially for effects-driven stuff I'm currently doing)and it seems I'd be better suited with a Strat. But I have to make do with what I have until I can afford a new guitar. Thanks!

4. I agree with Orsino...
You can't beat the Strat-Style humbuckers for their versatility and smoothness when playing clean.

Just my $.02 :)

2. You want Seymour Duncan SH-1 '59s.
I have one of those in the neck position of my Les Paul, with an APH-1 alnico II pro in the bridge slot. Oh good god, they do the job. VERY versatile.

5. Nice. Thanks.
I think you know more than most what sound I'm trying to go for. Like I posted above, I wanted a guitar that sounded good for stoner-type stuff, but my tastes have shifted over the last couple years.

6. I have one of those too.
I always wanted to change out the PUs & electronics, but when I bought my Tele, I just kinda forgot about it.

I think you want to check out some Duncan Alnico PU's. They're nice and warm. That's the direction I was leaning towards back when I was thinking about it.

8. I was going to say the Seymour Duncan Hotrail
But that is a single coil size, but is a double coil pickup. I put it on my ESP Tele and it sounds great. They really do make pretty decent pickups.
