Question for Gay DUers: Which of these set of your Gaydar?
There are a few celebs that I have a sneaking suspicion are closeted, which of these folks do you think are leading a double life?

1. Ben Affleck
2. Tom Cruise
3. Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser)
4. Jodie Foster

Are there any other "straight" celebs that you think are hiding a little secret?

2. gaydar is phoney
I've been known to trick a few gaydar systems and I'm 99.98% straight.

I'm leaving the other .02% for when I get really drunk one night. :D

31. Any good Metrosexual
can fool Gaydar if you try, Rat. Gaydar works when you're just walking around and you send out the vibe.

And you promised to never mention that night again!

you're right about gaydar, tho....PROJECTED wishful thinking coupled by heart-pounding attraction. Notice how no one ever has gaydar over an unattractive guy.

40. Yep
Knew a guy once who was always getting hit on by guys. He wasn't gay then he isn't gay now. He dressed better than the average guy and usually had a good hair cut. Come to think of it, ALL sexes had it for this guy. He married a total bitch.

Edited on Thu Dec-04-03 12:42 PM by La_Serpiente
Besides, he sues any journalist that says he's gay.

I don't know. I don't think Affleck is.

I really REALLY thought Jeff Corwin was until I found out he was married to a super model. A lot of the stuff he does really would put up any GLBT person's Gaydar.

but I've always thought that it would apply to people who weren't sexually mature. Corwin seems like it. Mr. Huffington did not until recently.

4. Actually, none of them...
I've never been one to pay much attention to the rumor mill. The thing that gets forgotten about celebrity figures is that they do have a right to a private life. As long as they aren't doing or saying anything negative about gays and lesbians, I say WHO THE F**K CARES?

That being said, in my fantasies, I'd prefer it to be Mr. Affleck! LOL!

32. Absolutely--Jodi isn't even a scret anymore--Doogie is just a nice guy,
without really a career, so no one ever talks about him.

Tom is a friggin nutcase--a mental midget who will never admit he's gay and instead find whacko religions to cure him.

Then again, there's only one occasion on which I really care about someone's sexual orientation -- and since I'm married, that doesn't come up very often anymore.

10. Be careful about mentioning Tom. We could be innundated in lawsuits.
And what can you say about a celebrity who's so paranoid about any speculation of his personal life that he has to threaten lawsuits all the time? Low point on this: Tom on one of Barbara Walters' specials, when asked about the gay talk, saying it was "disgusting, because of my children". Now he's a homophobe? Thanks, Tom.

My take on Tom Cruise is: where's there's smoke, there's fire.

And don't get me started on Sean Hayes.....

20. heheheh....
I sang with a GLBT/friendly chorus in So. Cali. for seven years -- the South Coast Chorale. It was one of the best times of my life, and I'd trade nothing for the memories.

But enough about me.

When Sean first moved to L.A. to break into the biz, one of his first gigs was as our accompanist for a year. Now, since it's a friendly chorus, meaning not exclusively queer, that alone does not mean he's gay.

But he is. He was a bud. Nice guy. Extremely talented musician. Queer as a football bat.

26. What I don't get is....
Sean is on a show about GAY PEOPLE. Playing a GAY man. It's not like Sean is pulling down $20 mil per picture to do things like "Lethal Weapon Part 10". He's not trying to save his image ala Tom Cruise.

Sean seems to be a decent guy (I wouldn't know. :-))

And he's certainly talented. I liked him very much in "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss". He can have a decent career doing indie films like that. As an openly gay man.

Wait. He can have a career doing mainstream films. As an openly gay man.

I just wish Sean would come out. He might be surprised how little fuss there would be.

27. I'm sure he'd be surprised.
The chorus director invited all former members back for the 10th anniversary show. Since he knew Sean, had worked with him for a year, and had his phone number, he called him directly, leaving a message. Sean's manager sent the director a letter declining the "apperance."

Not to cast aspersions on the man. I just think he does fear The Outing.

Whoever said she was "straight" even in quotes? I know she's gay because she whispered it in my ear one cozy night . . . .

Just kidding. But seriously. Either Jodie Foster is a lesbian, or I'm Sean Hayes. (And FWIW -- he ain't acting.)

too good looking or metrosexual to be 100% straight :)The fac tthat he sues everyone who says he's gay is proof to me. Any really secure straight guy could care less of being called gay, he'd just laugh it off and everything would stop..

Ben is not, Jodie Foster is 60-40

29. Good point.
The Scientology "Church" (or as I like to call it, cult) is NOT gay friendly, by any means. L. Ron Hubbard was a absolute homophobe (in "Dianetics", Hubbard says that homosexuality is a mental illness)

Tom Cruise is very supportive of the Scientologists. And that could be why he's so paranoid over the gay talk about him.

Speaking of Scientologists...one name that hasn't been mentioned in this poll: John Travolta.

Whether they are or aren't makes no difference to me.. Only one actually qualifies as an actor anyway..

We have all known LOTS of people who are gay..Some are out and some are not..

Some people are tall..some are not
some have brown hair, some do not
some are smart, some are not

etc etc etc.. makes no difference

Hell there are some people I have met or seen that if I found out they were gay, it might raise them in my esteem.

I really think Tom is though. Why else would he fight it so hard. If he wasn't, he just have a big laugh about it. Kinda like the few times that people have asked George Cloony if he was. He just shrugs it off and takes it as a compliment that gay men think he's hot.

33. From what I've heard/witnessed...
Jody is a lesbian. I have always respected that she is a private person who has refused to discuss her private life with the press, and has made no attempts to pretend otherwise (like Kevin Spacey).

Ben Affleck is straight. The whole gay rumor thing started because of his tight relationship with Damon and some joking comments they made in interviews alluding to that relationship.

Neil Patrick Harris is gay.

Tom Cruise is a strange bird. There is question as to whether or not he is genuinely bisexual or just gay and working very, very hard at covering it up. BTW, the rumors about Cruise predate his becoming a well-known actor. I had a gay friend who decades ago talked about a sexual encounter with Cruise.

As for Sean Hayes -- yes, he is gay. As a matter of fact, he was officially out when he was doing press for "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss" here in San Francisco. Why he decided to put himself back in is a mystery.

39. I thought they were all out except Tom
and it's been rumored for years that the Scientology hierarchy found wives for both him and John Travolta because they are so intolerant of any same-sex leanings...

I dunno, I wish no one had to announce their orientation anyway, because really, why does anyone care? I'm never going to get to sleep with any of 'em, so it's not my affair. It shouldn't even matter to anyone. I kind of respect the way both Kevin Spacey and George Clooney handle it - they will neither confirm nor deny rumors about their orientation (although both are seen on public occasions with decorative females) - because they don't feel there's anything shameful that needs to be hotly denied. Contrast that with Cruise, who flips out every time it's even mentioned.

I remember what Miss Manners said years ago when someone wrote to ask her how to introduce a gay couple to others at their parties (they even put 'couple' in quotes). She asked, "what kind of parties do you give, that people have to announce their sexuality at the door? Introduce people by their names!"

41. In Fairness
The problem actors have with letting people know they are gay is that it could hurt their careers. A guy like Clooney wouldn't necessarily have to think being gay was "shameful" to want to keep in under wraps so he could continue to play leading men with women hanging off them. Same with Cruise. I would be willing to bet that if a Cruise or Clooney or some other "macho" type were to announce to the world that he is gay, the parts in blockbuster movies would suddenly become pretty scarce. How many out gay men play male leads in movies with any regularity? (No fair mentioning Europeans, that's a whole 'nother discussion.)
