4. Want some funny Blues?
Look for Screamin Jay Hawkins. He did a song called Constipation Blues that is great for anyone who is willing to laugh at bathroom humor...

His other stuff is really good, but that song always sticks in my mind as one of the funniest blues sonfgs I've ever heard.

5. Anything BB King
or Etta James will get you in the mood. Try some Johnny Lang if you want to get into some serious blues guitar.

16. it's on my playlist
of course :D i also have grant green's version and dexter gordon's. i told you: i LOVE this song :D

btw...i had did an audition at my church for a talent showcase they're doing. as it happens, the audition was right after choir practice, so my audience was the choir. after i read a few poems, a few choir members approached me about adapting my poems for lyrics...and for writing lyrics!!! i'm so jazzed about this because i've always wanted to write a song. i may not know music, but i do know rhythm, and i know words, so i am excited!

8. Have you ever heard of Johnny Shines?
Edited on Mon Jul-28-03 12:58 AM by syrinx9999

He lived in my small, Southern city. He died several years ago.

He played in Robert Johnson's band back in the day. I wonder if he knew where the "crossroads" were?

ON EDIT: He was pretty famous in Europe.

Got any records?

I'm a white guy in Alabama. But my best friend from 17-21 was a black dude, slightly older than me. His brother was Johnny Shine's wife's "back-door man." I feel kind of "historical." :)

18. THE JUVENATORS!
They're all my very good friends and are from my hometown. They kick ASS! They play all over the south, including at Houston's Mercury Room. They have quite a following in the south and Texas.

Go here for a listen:
