OK, what are some CDs on your wish list?
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 02:24 AM by mvd
These are some I want to buy:

Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings The Flood (out now)
The Wreckers - Stand Still, Look Pretty (May release)
Dixie Chicks - Taking The Long Way (May release)
Rhett Miller - The Believer (out now)
Lucy Walsh - Modern Lover is supposedly the title (release date TBA)
Fefe Dobson - Sunday Love (June release)
The Lashes - Get It (out now)
Idlewild - The Remote Part (out now)
The Cottars - Forerunner
Pearl Jam - s/t (May release)
Amy Lavere - This World Is Not My Home (out now)
Josh Ritter - The Animal Years (April release)
Plumb - Chaotic Resolve (out now)
Katie Todd - Changing Faces (out now)
Goo Goo Dolls - Let Love In (April release)
Kate Bush - Aeriel (out now)
Duncan Sheik - White Limosine (out now)
Angela Ammons - title and release date TBA
Mountain Goats - Sunset Tree (out now)
The Magic Numbers - s/t (out now)

Considering these:

SHeDAISY - Fortuneteller's Melody (they went full pop this time, but it's better than Dixie Chicks-lite)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones ("Gold Lion" sounds like an improvement)
Jewel - Goodbye Alice In Wonderland
My Morning Jacket - Z
Buckcherry - 15 (have enjoyed them; we will see what this sounds like)
Pink - I'm Not Dead (love her, but not a fan of new single)
Nada Surf - The Weight Is A Gift
Flaming Lips - At War With The Mystics

1. Ok, listening to the SHeDAISY right now
on a full album listening party. I've heard enough to elevate it to will buy status.

3. I can't say I like their music.. Never listened to it.
But, I was a projectionist at a movie theater a long time ago and had to come in early one Saturday to play their promo video to label execs. It was 35mm so it needed to be played in a real theater. I was sporting a major hangover that morning (the promo started at 6am). But, they were very nice. My pain must have been visible, they apologized many times for the inconvenience.

5. Thanks for the story

Their first CD was good, but the newest is their best. And they needed a good CD to stay afloat.

On Knock On The Sky, they were trying too hard - and Sweet Right Here was Dixie Chicks-lite.

2. Dunno, but I've been on an underground hip hop binge lately.
I've been downlaoding anything I can find by Immortal Technique, Anticon, Odd Nosdam, Vast Aire, Dose One, etc.....anything on Def Jux, pretty much.

Also, I've been getting really into deaf avant-music composer Evelyn Glennie. To me, her event-filled compositions pick up the baton that Zappa dropped upon death. Her material is whimsical, deep, mournful and playful all at once.

And, in contrast, I've been re-discovering the joys of early Nick Lowe. "So it Goes" rocked my iPod four times over tonight on the way home. Can't beat Nick the Knife for that "Van Morrison Goes Power Pop" vibe that makes my wishlist with alarming regularity. As in: what if?

11. Rhymesayers is a great indie hip-hop label, if you aren't already familiar
DJ Abilities (one of the best hip-hop DJs around, in my opinion), Atmosphere, MF Doom, Eyedea, Mr. Dibbs (my personal favourite DJ). Lots of good stuff.

6. I just heard the new Pearl Jam on iTunes
It is very good; classic Pearl Jam without all the "grunge" feel.

12. The only reason you linked that
is so that we'd take pity on you and buy a load of them for you - isn't it? :P

But I've got you beaten - my Amazon wish-list is 9 pages not a paltry 3.

13. No, the reason I linked taht is because I am lazy.
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 11:42 AM by primate1
If someone decides to buy me something from it, that's just a nice little bonus. (*cough*birthday in less than two weeks*cough*)

And considering I started it Sunday night, I think I'm making decent progress, haha. Nine pages...pssshhh. I'll be at ten before the day is out.

I did that with my dvd wishlist though.

17. Beach Boys
and Byrds. I really want to hear artful vocal harmonies that continue to rock.

And if you know of any contemporary bands that would remind me of this stuff (see also Jefferson Airplane and Gentle Giant), please recommend.

21. Skin - "Fake Chemical Skin" (on pre-order)
Jeffrey Lewis - "It's the Ones Who've Cracked That The Light Shines Through"
Emiliana Torrini - "Fisherman's Woman"
Jacques Brel - "Infiniment" (basically a best of)
Neutral Milk Hotel - "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"
Aimee Mann - "Bachelor No.2"
Tin Hat Trio - "The Rodeo Eroded"
Queen Adreena - "The Butcher and the Butterfly"
Caitlin Cary - "Begonias"
Martha Tilston - "Bimbling"

Then my Amazon wishlist descends into the day I decided to add every stand-up album I could find that I might possibly be interested in and I can't be arsed to go further! I'd only add The Dresdon Dolls' upcoming album Yes, Virginia (a naughty copy of which I own & highly recommend the real thing when it comes out next month).
