The new series of Dr Who is premiering this Friday. Just saw a new ad for it during SG-1.

3. 9PM CST? EST?
If that's 9PM CST, then yes, it's in the same time slot.

9. Are they showing the new one, with David Tennant, on Sci-Fi?
Or are they airing the one with Christopher Eccleston from last year.

I can't wait for the new one. I was planning on downloading it like I did last year.

12. It'll be the Ecclestone Doctor
Since only one Tennant episode has been shown on the BBC (the Christmas special) and his first season won't be shown on BBC television until around July (since it's still in production).

13. OMG Thanks so much.....
I was a HUGH!!111!!! fan of the original series.

Seriously, I really was. I heard on NPR that they had a new series starting, but figured I would have had to wait for the DVD's to see it. too cool.

Thanks.

The books were better than the OE series. :)

20. I went ahead and bought the DVDs
Seeing that continental Europe is pretty much a Doctor-free zone.

Kudos to the BBC for the box design, though.

15. They are much too late

They expected me to wait a year? Thanks to BitTorrent I downloaded and watched the entire season several months ago.

For me, Jon Pertwee is *the* Doctor (showing my age here a little). I was terrified by the Sea Devils and the Green Death in the 1970s.

The best episode of the new series is the two-parter "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances"-- spooky and ingenious. The next best is "Dalek". Some of the stories, however, are pretty stupid-- "Boom Town" and "Bad Wolf" for example. "Father's Day" had the potential to be good but unfortunately they screwed it up.

16. Wowzers!
Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker are my all-time favorite Doctors. My all-time favorite villain(s) would have to be Davros and the Daleks - I can see where Terry Nation lifted them right out of the Nazi German template. The really creepy part is that the Daleks were once humans themselves before Davros went on his big cybernetic ubermensch kick.

17. At the risk of being accused of nitpicking...

the Daleks were actually originally Kaleds, which were humanoids, but not human.

(Note that "Dalek" is an anagram of "Kaled").

21. Actually, not quite accurate
Davros created an artificial lifeform that he said was what the kaleds would eventually evolve into.

But that never happened as the daleks themselves took control.

Seems like in a later episode they returned to Skaro (think that was the world) and did encounter some naturally evolved kaleds but they were not daleks.

25. The new who is fantastic!

The first two episodes are running tonight, 'rose' and 'The end of the world'. Good stuff and great fun, if a little light.

It's on at 9:00 pm eastern, then again at 11:00 eastern.

Who was the biggest thing in the UK last year, a nice recommendation. I can't wait. I hope the ratings are high enough so scifi buys the next two seasons as well.

27. Thanks for the timing info
my TV guide only said "DR Who" and four times listed - 8, 9, 10, and 11 (central). I had no idea if they were showing 4 episodes, or two and repeating it.
