I am babysitting my ex-dog.
Her name is Poochie and she was a stray I found in downtown Dallas when she was a puppy. She hates all men except for my ex-husband and my son. With the people she loves she's a gentle giant but with those she doesn't know she can be dangerous. She's only bitten one person and that was my ex-brother-in-law when she thought he had hurt my ex-husband. She's a large dog (weighs 120 lbs) and if I were guessing, she's part lab, part pit, part german shephard and part whatever gave her a mostly white coat and large size.

I prepared my fiance for this visit by telling him to speak softly, move slowly and to remain seated most of the time since she gets intimidated by men when they are standing up. I also was prepared to keep her on a short leash the whole time she's here where I could have complete control over her as she minds me well.

Poochie has fallen in love with my fiance. Poochie is 9 years old and both my ex and I have dealt with her hating men since I found her when she was 4 months old. From the moment she met my fiance there was no growling, no showing of teeth...nothing, except for tail wagging, following around and trying to be his lap dog. It's the strangest thing I've ever seen given what I know about Poochie.

I wasn't worried about how Poochie and my dog (rat terrier/benjii mix) or my 2 cats would get along since Poochie won't attack any inside animals. Plus Poochie was raised by my older calico cat so I knew there would be a reunion going on there.

BTW, both my ex and I live in the same small, rural town and Poochie has several acres to run around on when she's at home so she doesn't pose a danger to people unless they come onto her property.

1. I bet she is also part Great Pyrenese. That would make her
big and somewhat white looking. We have one next door. :) Enjoy her!

3. Yep, dogs do know good people
but Poochie had been so abused she thinks all men are bad people. The brother in law she bit is a dog lover and is good people. Most of our relatives are good people and we've had to give the same instructions to the male relatives as I gave to my fiance. That's what is so amazing about her taking up with him.

When my fiance left this morning to go get the oil changed in his truck, Poochie sat at the back door waiting on him to come back. The only person I've ever seen her do that with is my ex-husband.
