How the hell did the Liberal "Wimp/Soft" crap start?
Seriously this idiocy is, well, idiotic.

Is it all based on support of Women's Rights and Homosexual Rights?

How is it that the belief in Political Equity (freedom from bias or favoritism) be turned so badly?

The "Media" well...YES I suppose. But there must be some more substantial cultural thing or something...

Me? I like wine/beer/vodka, sushi/steak tartar/salmon, and good emergency healthcare. Oh and I don't like, but don't mind either, conflict...

And chicks, specifically my most wonderful wife.

So this wimpy/soft crap...From where does it emerge?

2. It is my experience that...
Those with Dick issues talk about their manhood and virility and, yes, their dicks, with alarming regularity.

Thus, the issue is explained. ;-)

5. I'm guessing it began in the 1960s as a response to the macho...

...mentality that permeated American society during the post-war years.

12. Only by a few years.
I'd place it in the late 40's and early 50's. Prior to that, it was the democrats who were the party of hawks, especially in the years leading up to WWII. I think it was basically as a result of political realignment at the beginning of the cold war. We were wimps because we wouldn't either start WWIII fast enough (Truman-MacArthur-Korea-China-Patton) or turn America into, well, Russia (McCarthy-Nixon-Reagan-"god").

23. Perhaps, but...
...it was really in the late 60s-early 70s that it took off. It was based on opposition to Vietnam by young people. Conservatives seized on the notion that there were no higher ideals motivating war opponents, that the only reason draft-age men were protesting the war was that they were too cowardly or un-manly to "do their patriotic duty." Of course, it didn't help that most of the young men protesting the war wore their hair long, so that the complaint was that "you couldn't tell if they were a boy or a girl."

6. I suspect is backlash for calling George H.W. a wimp to his detriment
at the polls, in combination with the standard liberal anti-war stance.

Not that any of that makes the accusation genuine. If it bothers you, don't get angry, -start a web-page to catalogue the bravery of liberals and progressives by current societal standards. It can't be hard, - we've plenty of resources around here.

None of those early labor notables were "soft", by ANY measure.

Shit...I'd give Bush 3 seconds against any of them, including the women.

Those were HARD folk, period.

A lot of it I hate to admit is most likely from women's rights and homosexual's rights...but standing up for something shouldn't be considered wimpy.

24. The fact that
Some liberals/lefties are as touchy and whiny about criticism as their conservative/rightie counterparts (case in point: DU's new secret police -- aka "Moderator"). It's just that when the libs/left had its chance to make the "wimp" label stick to the right (Bush Sr.!), they dropped the ball ... as usual.

that novelist Allen Drury really gave that canard it's screechy cachet...the liberals in his novel are somehow both cowardly and craven yet evil enough to do in conservatives in sneaky ways.
Pretty much the current malign caricature in a nutshell.
