2. Because I like my cats in pairs
Male and Female are sisters, as are Trin and Streak.

Now I want a pair of Maine Coon brothers to keep these uppity females in line ;-)

3. Just go to your local animal shelter
and I am sure you will find more than just one or two. In fact, if you are serious, I am on many animal rescue lists and there are always Maine coons looking for homes. In fact, I did a transport for a Coon kitten from Calhoun, GA on its way to Florida. I went to Calhoun and brought to Acworth, GA and met the lady who took it to Orlando to its forever home.

6. Alternatively, there is a great breeder in Tennesee
Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 08:03 PM by geniph
Kit Mounger's Coonmountain. Kit edits the Maine Coon Breeders and Fanciers Association newsletter, the Scratch Sheet, and is a great person to talk to, and a very ethical and responsible breeder. Here's her website:
http://cindypitts.com/cm/
look at her Kittens page:
http://cindypitts.com/cm/kittens.htm

(I suggested her because I don't know the Georgia and Florida breeders very well, but Kit and I have talked many times and I'm familiar with her reputation among other breeders.)

15. Just go to Yahoogroups.com.
Join up, then put in a search for cat rescues, animal rescue or Maine coons. There are plenty of groups that list animals looking for homes. Some will even transport if you are out of state. Please do that and don't go to a breeder.

5. Try
www.petfinder.com

Plenty of MC cats and kittens are out there, looking for someone just like you to own. ;-)

They "pair" well with any breed!

My four month old MC Oberon ("Obie") with my 24 pound rescue kitty Miro ("Jabbacat" "lardass" 'the Roast", etc.)

12. Your Obie's really cute, and I love your tuxedo...
We had a couple of tuxedos once, and one of them was a little porker.

Fat Elvis was stray we adopted. He was a very affectionate cat, especially with me (he thought I was god). He got his name because Joshua, my oldest son, was looking at Tristan Jones and this cat side by side, and suddenly exclaimed, "Look, it's the young Elvis and the old, fat Elvis!" The name stuck. We also called him "Roadkill", for his habit of lying right in the middle of the hallway, on his back, legs in the air. The vet thought he was about 11 or 12 when we took him off the street. We had him about 2 years when he passed away.

This is Tristan Jones, one of the most inoffensive little cats I've ever seen. A stray we picked up, who had no bad habits, was very lovable, and the omega of our cat pack. We took him off the street as a kitten, but he only lived 3.5 years before dying of lymphoblastic sarcoma. Two Christmases ago. He's buried in our garden, with a rose bush planted over him. That was a tough Christmas for my youngest son. Tristan was 'his' cat, the little kitty slept with Jake when he was here. Jakes dog at his mothers house (which he'd had 13 years) died the same month.

13. Aww..both look like they were so sweet,
and handsome too! So sorry for the loss, I feel for Joshua.:-(

Miro plays "Roadkill" a lot too. In fact, probably 2/3 of the tuxedo cats I've met over the age of two were plump as can be. Something in the genes?

...here is my beloved Panda (1985-1996), a tuxedo "longy" Manx.

9. be careful what you wish for :)
We live up the road from a cat shelter. Consequently people drop off their cats, without actually going in to the facility. Our latest is Mr. Bubbles, 14.5 lbs., emaciated at the time, with 23 claws. And the markings of a short-hair Maine coon. What a BOZO he is! He is truly a moose. He is now up to proper weight 20 lbs and he is like having a bull moose in the house...There is nothing in the house that he hasn't broken. Good luck in your hunt, if you don't find the cat, he will find you....I know from your posts that you are truly a great animal lover! :)

16. LOL, Midori, I also looked up Maine Coon breeders here in Holland
after reading the thread on these cats! :D :D :D
I have a dog who hates cats, but when he dies, I think I'll either get two Siamese like I had before, or check into the Maine Coons.....they look special, don't they? Their size alone is intriguing!

Pepper was in rare form last night and this morning. She looked like a prowrestler flying around off the top rope. Insane.

18. Well, I'll be your Maine Loon Midori!
Poor substitute I know but it'll have to do for now. :-(

Maine Coons are such fun and whacky. I had one years ago that used to get on the tippy top of the Christmas Tree and swing the thing back and forth w/a wild look in his eyes. He taught himself to use the toilet too. RIP Lionel

19. Yes, Me too
All this endless "They're so wonderful!" gets me envious!

I will have to wait until I get some money coming in again. I can't afford a pet right now, much as I want one.

named Thomas. I got him at a shelter a year and a half ago. Since he is such a dandy, his nickname is Sir Thomas Fluffle-Ruff or sometimes, Cat-zilla.
