2. I skipped my 10 year in 2003

I volunteered for Howard Dean's "Sleepless Summer" rally at the airport instead.

I might go to my 20th, if I'm free, because that one is "official," sponsored by the school, and might actually make sense. The 10 year was "unofficial," sponsored by the cheerleaders who made up the Class Board way back when, and was held at a trendy club 30 miles from my high school, in downtown Chicago.

4. Enjoyed mine immensely

Talked to a lot of interesting people
- the wife of a guy I didn't know - she had a really cool job AND was at PSU when I was
- an old friend who remembered my Springsteen obsession after all these year
- a short, nerdy Japanese guy I've known since kindergarten, who is now successful and taller and GRAY but kind of cute (also with a wife who was interesting to talk to)
- the class clown, who acted really dumb all through school, and is now a doctor (:scared:)
- three Jewish guys who used to torment me during Jr. High Band, who ended up being really funny and really nice, which reminded my why I used to date Jewish guys in spite of being total shiksa
- a woman who speculated that my best friend's dad was in the Mob (which he isn't, but he IS involved in a lot of shady financial dealings...hmm...)
- a guy who got drunk and apologized over and over again for turning me down when I invited him to one of my sorority's formals in college (which I had no recollection of doing)

There were a lot of people where I had forgotten how much I liked them, and it was great to re-connect. The "cool" clique hung out with themselves and didn't bother anyone

Also, I had a crush on the organizer when I was in the 4th grade, and I enjoyed seeing his (2nd? 3rd?) wife, who was way too young for him, and covered with tattos, and dressed out of the Frederick's of Hollywood catalog. Hey, that alone was worth the price of admission!!!

I think I talked to as many interesting spouses as I did classmates!

Though a part of me had wanted to go back so I could poke fun at the two sports heroes, the "greatest people ever!" according to the school because they were good at sports, and laugh at the one for coking out of his fullride basketball scholarship, and the other one for just plain failing out - at a state university, no less - in his full ride sports scholarship.

12. I'd sooner eat boiled animal shit.

That's actually next year for me and a few people who are friends with my neighbor (who also graduated with me) are trying to get me to go. PFFFFFFFT. They must be trippin'. High school reunions are for people who enjoyed high school. I wasn't one of those people. Bravo for everyone else if they can forgive and forget the continuous dickishness that was undeservedly foisted upon them throughout those years, but I just can't lie and pretend everything's OK and nothing will happen.

Seeing these people again would literally bring out the worst in me. If there's one thing I cannot stand beyond anything, it's seeing someone pick on someone else that possesses no power and obviously no match for them, just because THEY CAN. For this reason, forget it, it'd be like a saloon fight.

I'd hear one snide comment, one of these pieces of shit running their drunk yap where it isn't warranted, limbs are getting broken and faces bloodied in front of their spouses. And I wouldn't stop till the cops came and beat me. And I personally don't care whether anyone thinks this is childish or not. Some can't deal with things that happened to them in the past as well as others can. I still live with this every day. Getting humiliated in front of people who laugh at the weak for fun anyway, and having this happen to you monthly, it's easy to see why I have a hard time warming up to anyone not into the same shit I'm culturally into. I don't go to bars because when I look at the people that go to them, I see these people.

13. I went to my 10th, heard some nasty comments from

the same nasty girls that always made those comments about others and tore those girls a new asshole.

I was informed that night that I will never be invited to another class reunion. I wasn't invited to that one-I just showed up.

I wasn't about to listen to nasty comments about dead classmates. I wasn't known for shutting my mouth in high school and I wasn't about to shut it just because they wanted me to "play nice" for one night. And I wasn't going to give them $100 for a bar that was open to the public that entire night and for drinks that I was paying for out of my pocket already.

and I never heard anything about the tenth or the twentieth, so I expect this one will pass by unobserved as well. Heck, there were only 52 people in my graduating class.

18. Missed them all

After the 10th reunion, I ran into someone who told me they were looking for me. I had been out of the country for our years, mostly working in Israel and travelling Europe without much money (and absoloutely no regrets!) if there were any others, I never heard about them. My 30th would have been a few years ago. It would be interesting to see how they all aged - from a fly on the wall perspective. But not that interesting to consider attending.

A friend went to a couple of hers. She said all the "popular" people were burned out and miserable.

20. I went to mine

and had a terrific time. I reconnected with a couple of old friends who turned out to be serious progressive Democrats. They live in Ohio and we have spent the last 5 years ranting and raving via e-mail.

I'm glad I went, in spite of the hangover.

I skipped my 10-year reunion, but an old boss of mine made me promise that I would go to my 20th. He said that by then, everyone is bald and fat and nobody gives a damn about who you were or weren't in high school. That makes me kinda want to go. Because if I thought it would be like high school - hell no, I wouldn't go! Bastards!
