5 Year Old Called For Jury Duty
<snip>

TOWSON, Md. -- Many people dread getting a jury summons in the mail, but for a Baltimore mother it was more of a shock. The legal system didn't want her, but it did summon her 5-year-old son.

Baltimore television station WBAL reported that Aidan Evans, 5, has no idea what the letter means. The summons came in the mail two weeks ago calling for him to serve as a juror in the Baltimore County Circuit Court.

"I saw it was an official document," said his mom, Laura Evans. "(I) couldn't imagine what Aidan would be summoned for -- couldn't believe it. He's 5 years old in kindergarten."

Robinson reported the notice had a birth date of April 23, 1900. Aidan's birthday is April 23, 2000.

"We're going to let them know he's 5, not 105," said his dad, Seth Evans. "We weren't sure to check the box, (if) he's over 70 or not 18 yet."

"I've been here for 25 years," said jury commissioner Nancy Tilton. "Never summoned a dog or a child."

Tilton said the summons was not intended for Aidan. She said they got the name from the Motor Vehicle Administration and voter lists.
