9. When Drysdale was mad
he'd throw behind a guy's head. Same with Gibson.

Quoth Willie Mays: "Drysdale, who's a good friend of mine, like to kill me a couple times, and he knows it."

You might appreciate my Field of Dreams story
I googled some relatives of mine since alot of them were doctors and I discovered a fifth cousin of my grandfather who played 4 seasons for the Baltimore Orioles 1895-1898. Erasmus Arlington Pond. For lifetime stats he pitched 496 innings and had a 3.45 ERA. I don't know if that is good or bad, but the O's won two pennants while he was there.
After baseball, he went to medical school, like his grandfather and his brother. Thus the field of dreams angle. He died in the Phillipines in 1930. Kinda funny how his baseball is remembered on the internet, but his medical work is not.

15. Erasmus Arlington 'Arlie' Pond
Lifetime (1895-98) 35-19, completed 46 of 60 starts, 496 innings, 517 hits, walked 150, struck out 156, 3.45 ERA. Batted .245 (45-184), five doubles, one triple, no homers, 14 RBI.

Not bad.

The seriously cool part is he played on the same club with Wilbert Robinson, Kid Gleason, John McGraw, Hughie Jennings and Willie Keeler.

8. Same as they hit any other — timing
Thing is, a pitch that comes from Down There is harder to pick up, and it has a natural break. (Carl Mays, the guy who killed Ray Chapman with a pitch in 1920, was a submariner.)

On the other side, sidewheelers can't generate the power of an overhand pitch, so hitters aren't likely to see anything in the 90s.

16. All time? Bob Gibson's anything
I don't think anyone has ever looked meaner on a mound.

Currently, if I'm a left-handed hitter, I don't want to be within a mile of Randy Johnson's slider, coming at me from behind my head.

Righty, I'd say either Mariano Rivera's cutter or Eric Gagne's changeup with honorable mentions to Barry Zito's curveball and a good old fashioned Clemens heater (I'm not sure if he counts or not, at this point.)
