Zen Arcade - Husker Du...anyone like it?
I'm just listening to it for the first time, and I must say, its not what I expected at all...Not knowing much about them, i kinda expected some 80s new age crap, but I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised...So far(I'm 11 tracks into the album)...these guys kick much ass. Very rockin and hard stuff.

4. I packed up my belongings in a nylon carryall...
...I loved it then, love it now.

Seriously, there was nothing like it at the time either. It still doesn't fit into any categories neatly. Amazing record.

All their stuff kicks ass in different ways. They went from being a really good hardcore band to being one of the best 80s "underground rock" bands.

7. The primordial soup of everything on college/alt radio from 1989 on . . .
Zen Arcade is a grossly underrated album. It's pretty much my and a lot of other's Nevermind; or the album that should have been showered with Nevermind's accolades, anyway. So much depth yet so much simplicity. So much tunefulness combined with mass abrasion. Bob, Grant and Greg were light years ahead of their time on this one.

9. Damn right it should have gotten Neverminds accolades...
I'll always hate Cobain because he so obviously owed Husker Du a massive debt of gratitude but aside from maybe one brief mention in an interview he never took the time to tout them like he did a lot of much shittier bands who then rode his coattails to fame.

8. Are you kidding? Greatest album ever....
Seriously, that album changed and saved my life. Being a disaffected teen in the mid 80's and putting on that album and listening to it straight through with lyric sheet in hand. Goddamn I still get chills thinking about it. I have my original vinyl copy of that framed on my wall it means that much to me.

11. love it
Just wish I wasn't at work now since it has to be experienced at maximum volume. New Day Rising came out my freshman year of college and was constantly on my Walkman as I wandered around in a semi-dazed and confused state.

Also, I think the phrase you were looking for is "new wave", not "new age."
