I had my meeting with my supervisor and company owner today
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 07:59 PM by SeattleGirl
First though, I want to thank all of you who sent me positive thoughts, prayers, and energy. I am absolutely convinced it helped me be calm, think clearly, and not be defensive (I don't mean I didn't defend myself, I mean I wasn't finger-pointing-defensive). Plus many of you gave me some good ideas on handling this kind of office-politics-garbage in the future. I really cannot tell you how much you all mean to me.

As to the meeting, Brad, the company owner, started out by telling me that while he had never met me before I was hired, he wanted me to work for the company because I have a very good reputation in the worker's compensation community, and I didn't do sloppy work. (Boy, did THAT make me feel good!)

Then, Ken, my supervisor, said that because the weird woman had pulled 4 cases from me since last Wednesday, he wanted to look at my casenotes to see if there was a problem he was not aware of. He said the only thing he noticed was occasionally a lack of activity on a case. It wasn't a national crisis or anything, but he and Brad wanted to know if there was anything going on with me, because I haven't had a lot of that kind of thing. I said that I had something going on in my personal life, but didn't want to talk about it. Brad said, "we don't want to poke into your personal life, but if you have a problem, or some extra stress in your personal life, maybe we can help. If you're having financial problems, the company can loan you some money if necessary. If there is a drug or alcohol problem, we can help you get help with that. Whatever it is, we just want to understand." So, without going into any real details, I said that there was some stuff going on in my marriage, and it was really weighing on me. And they both said thanks for letting us know. What can we do to help you not feel too much stress. (God, I love these guys.)

Then, I brought up the weird woman, and said that I felt she had her high beams on me, and that it seemed sometimes as if she were trying to make me look bad. I shared the emails with them, and also referred to a few other incidents that Ken was already aware of, and he backed up what I was saying. Weird woman does Quality Assurance for the company, but there is also another woman who does QA. I told Ken and Brad that I would prefer not having weird woman review my cases, and would prefer not to staff cases with her, but would rather deal with the other woman. They both said that was absolutely fine. Ken was going to call the other woman after the meeting and let her know about this.

And that was the end of it. I feel so much better. Ken and Brad both made it clear that they never thought of firing me, and in fact, want me to stay because they know I'm good at what I do.

Sorry for the long post, but I promised I'd let you folks know what happened today. And again, THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU. You really did help me get through this.

I always try to do my best to respect people that I'm dealing with, even if I am in disagreement with them. Perhaps that's one thing that helped with the meeting today.

I grew up with an alcoholic father, and my involvement in a 12-step group for people from similar situations helped me more than I can say to do some healing from the effects of growing up in that environment.
