I'm alive, but badly maimed - I was clueless about the sharks - got each of them wrong! Guess I can't go swimming. :)

10. Recent accounts have proven the two shark questions to be wrong.
"Gouging the eyes" isn't the best attack to get a shark to go away. Punching the "snout" area has been shown to be the most effective retaliation. Also, "staring down" an animal (shark) that relies so little on his/her eyesight is moronic. All that will do is ready you for any impending attack. The only real way to avoid a shark that has put you on the menu, is to get out of the water.

15. Yeah, the shark questions threw me too...
First, punching it on the snout would confuse it, it has sensitive electrical organs there, also, when you see a shark in the water, depending on how far out you are from shore, and how close the shark is to you, swimming away may be the best option, but another option would be to not draw attention to yourself. Basically relax all you muscles and do the bare minimum to stay afloat, sharks can swim at over 30 knots, while humans may manage 2 or 3 most times. Given that, its almost like running away from any other wild animal, stupid and may cause more injury to you than if you did nothing. Most sharks, except in rare cases, do not eat humans as food, they use their mouths as a feeler of sorts, and will spit you out when you aren't up to taste, so to speak. Also, given that they can detect the electrical impulses of our nerves to our muscles, being under less activity, and not thrashing around in panic means that the shark is more likely to ignore you.

16. The dog attack part was interesting...
The first option, staring it down and backing away damn near made me laugh. OK, to the dog, you both want it to attack(eye contact is considered aggressive behavior to dogs), and backing away slowly, OK, great way to start a short chase there!
