I just heard the most disgusting commercial
Edited on Thu Mar-02-06 04:26 PM by Oeditpus Rex
on the Giants-Brewers game. It was for some kind of start-your-own-business thing, and this guy said, "As a corporate executive, I had a six-figure income. But with a wife and two kids, I needed more."

:puke:

Edit: Typo. (Happy now, Call Me Shirley?) :grr:

2. Nice
I once worked for a guy who said "anyone who doesn't make at least $100,000 a year is living in poverty." Of course, he thought that eight bucks an hour was an awesome wage for me.

4. Those commercials make me want to hurl.
The ones I see on weekends during cheap-thrill movies are terrible.

"I had a six-figure income. But with a wife and two kids, I needed more" is rather constant. And the smugness of is maddening.

9. Some rightwing one-termer assbot congresscritter said something like that
He was some rich-ass Republican from the 'burbs. I forget what district, but it was in one of Jim Hightower's books from the late 90s.

The congresscritter said something like how his $200,000 income was "barely" middle-class, and how somebody wasn't upper-class unless they made over 1/2 million a year.

Needless to say, he lasted one term before the good folks from back home found him more suitable employment.

30. I have seen that in the congressional record
Edited on Thu Mar-02-06 05:20 PM by hfojvt
they extended the child tax credit to families making more than $100,000 a year and said they were doing it for the middle class.

This crosses party lines though. Some Democrats say the same things:

"I billed more than $750,000 for the firm, which netted me $150,000.
But my expenses continued to outrun my earnings. And my stress level
was, if anything, higher than ever." "Friends in high places" Webb
Hubbell 1997 p 149

"Although my $124,000 salary at Justice wasn't as much as I'd made
at Rose, with Suzy's salary and money in the bank, we thought we'd
be okay for a while. op cit p 207

edit: In 1993, an income of over $126,233 made you one of the top 5% richest families.

Really, why does a guy with a wife and two kids and already has a six figure income need more money?

Only one word describes someone like that:

ASSHOLE

35. I think they put Mr. Six Figure in there
because they only want that kind of person to sign on to whatever game they're running.

No sense telling some minimum wage worker with nothing in the bank how much money he can make working from home if he'll pay a mere $300 for your valuable information. He's not going to be able to pay that.

Someone with a six figure income, on the other hand, may figure that $300 isn't much to lose and will sign up on an impulse. I don't think the idea is to suggest that people should be more greedy, it's just a function of the greed of the people putting on the ad.
