4) Minnesota Timberwolves
5) UND Everything
6) Minnesota Wild

2. I would say NDSU and UND are pretty equal statewide...
The state bleeds gold just as much as it bleeds green.;)

3. You're probably right.
And even more so now that they aren't playing each other anymore.

I grew up in a mixed home. My father in a UND and UND Law Alum and my mother went to pharmacy school at NDSU.

I went to UND.

4. Yeah, all the farmers and ranchers are NDSU faithful.
Probably the townies are more leaning towards UND, but I think the difference is that UND grads tend to stay in North Dakota more than NDSU grads. As a friend of mine once put it, "An NDSU grad looks at Chicago or LA and says, 'That's where I wanna be!' A UND grad sees Fargo and says, 'That's where I wanna be!'":)

6. Some other Clevelanders may disagree with me....
But right now, it's:
1) Cavaliers
2) Browns
3) Indians

In a few months, it will be:
1) Indians
2) Cavs
3) Browns

And then a few months later, it will be:
1) Browns
2) Indians
3) Cavs

Cleveland sports fans kinda like whomever's playing at the time, and try to forget everybody else. Not that I can blame them, after over half a century of abject disappointment. Still, they're a bunch of fair-weather fans.

7. That's interesting.
I wonder if it's like that for most. Not with me. The Minnesota Twins are numero uno all year long. My homepage is their MLB site and I keep up to date with all the offseason transactions. I don't do anything similar with either the T-wolves or the Vikings.

8. I have no freaking idea who is tops.
Edited on Thu Mar-02-06 01:43 PM by kick-ass-bob
Duke, UNC, NC State basketball teams
Durham Bulls
NC State football
Carolina Hurricanes
Carolina Mudcats
College baseball, women's college basketball (Duke, UNC this year, NC State in years past)

I can't rank all that.

Nationally, UNC has more fans, but around this area, it is pretty evenly split.

14. Let's hear it for the ACC!
As long as there's no mention of Duke football in there, I'd have to agree with you wholeheartedly!

9. Detroit
1. Pistons-popular with everyone in the area, across racial lines and all.
2. Red Wings-most popular team in the league. They sell the most merchandise in the NHL.
3. MSU Spartans. Lots of alumni in the area.
4. UM Wolverines. Same as above, but a slightly smaller school with less alumni than State.
5. Tigers-always loved, even in their decline.
6. U of D Titans. They usually have a decent b-ball team.
7. Grand Rapids Griffins-the Red Wings' "farm" team. When the Wings hire too many high-paid goalies to meet the salary cap, they usually send one to the Griffiths. They did this to Cujo a few years back.
8. EMU Hurons/CMU Chippies/WMU Broncos. Smaller schools than the Big 10 schools, but still schools with lots of alumni in the area.
9. Every High School, college and little league team in the country.

and lastly

10. the Lions

2) Yankees
3) Giants
4) Mets
5) Flyers
6) Jets
7) Sixers
8) Knicks
9) Devils
10) Rangers

I don't know how accurate that list is but I can say with great certainty that the Eagles and Yankees are by far the most popular teams around here

13. Uh...not much to choose from here.
During college football season, the Broncos are elevated to the status of gods. Bronco fever can be pretty fun at times.

Other than that, there's Steelhead hockey, Stampede basketball, and Hawks baseball, all of which do well.

18. That's funny.
I, like any other athlete in North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin, used to get brochures from them on a twice-a-week rate when I was a senior in high school. They offered, but I went to UND on a track and field scholarship instead.

Small world. MSU Moorhead...go figure.
