Raw vegetables- God's punishment for being fat.

Perhaps I should clarify. They'd be a lot better if I had some dip, but dip is a no-no.

2. You just have to get used to them.
Some are good raw and some are not so good.

And raw veggies taste best right out of the garden that you have put the time and effort into growing.

3. What are you growing?
I've already started my tomatoes and peppers indoors... the beans and okra and other stuff will be planted directly outside.

5. I'm starting my tomatoes and peppers indoors too.
I've also picked up some carrots, sweet corn, radishes, green beans, peas, cauliflower and some herbs (some will be dried, others used fresh in season).

And for sweets-strawberries. I've been thinking about a few apple trees. If I plant them this year they will start bearing in about two years.

7. I got some strawberries too...
Have you ever seen those hybrid trees? Well I suppose they're not hybrids, they're different types of saplings (apple, pear, whatever) grafted together to form one tree that produces several different types of fruit. So strange!

I used to have an apple tree, a pear tree and a peach tree. I'd really love to do that again someday.

15. I have seen them.
They look so cool but I'm not sure how well they hold up. I'd like to hear if anyone has any experiences w/ them.

I've had apple and pear before but would love to go for peach and cherry too. You figure at two trees each you could make the room in the front and back yards.

I've also been thinking about some raspberry and blackberry bushes.

I have rhubarb, onions and garlic come up every year but I don't know if they will this year. My garden died last year-too dry and a very late frost.

And you can always put low fat dressing or marinade on em, I suppose. The word cruciferous sure doesn't make em sound more palatable, does it.

They are equally good either way! So there! :*

Actually, my dog needs to have cauliflower, broccoli, and celery cooked or he won't eat them. He eats all other veggies raw or cooked, but those must feel odd in his mouth, because he'll want one, then spit it out. But, if any of those three are cooked, he will wolf 'em down.

So, i'll eat any veggie cooked or raw, but the doggie agrees with you. He wants them steamed.

crunchy, season them with just a dash of soy sauce, not a lot, just enough to bring out the flavor. Use low sodium soy if you like.

It'll still fit the diet, and it'll taste delicious :P

35. Use FAT FREE salad dressing as a dip
Try garlic, ranch or honey mustard. You don't need to slather them in it, just dip the tip and it makes it much more palatable.

It takes a few weeks, but your body adjusts. I literally get sick if I eat fast food or other overprocessed stuff with a high fat content.

Also, a little steaming, lemon and seasonings doesn't hurt, especially with a broccoli, cauliflower, carrot mix.

Hang in there. You really do feel better -- eventually.

Then in early evening when the sun has warmed the tomatoes all day, you go out there with a saltshaker and pick dinner off the vine.

At least that's what I do. No one else here will eat them and it's quiet in the garden.

44. Oh they're not that bad....
My diet (lost 50 lbs. in 2 1/2 months!) includes an unlimited number of carrots, celery or broccoli as snacks, and I mostly do the carrots, sliced into chips. Put a bit of spicy salsa on them and they're not too bad. Anyway, they're enough to keep you satiated until the next restricted-portion meal.

I also limit dressing on my salads to 1 tbsp, even if it's a huge one. A good way to get more mileage out of that tablespoon is to also sprinkle a bit of fresh ground pepper and grated parmesan (not too much!) - hope these ideas help a bit and good luck!

For dressing, I usually go with a higher ratio of red wine vinegar to olive oil. A little tip I learned from "good Eats" is to add mustard (a brown one like Dijon) to bind the two together. Add some Mrs. Dash, and it's as good, if not better, than store-bought stuff.
