Yes, I'm watching American Idol. Shut up.
IMHO, Taylor was a yooooge disappointment tonight.

Elliott, on the other hand, gave me chills.

I welcome replies from anyone else who's not too embarrassed to come out of the AI closet.

1. Nice to meet you, SUCKER.
I mean, please. Easily entertained, are you? Base or shallow?

5. I don't know about you, but I had an extremely tough day today.
Mindless entertainment was exactly what I needed, and that's why I watched the show. Sometimes it fits the purpose.

6. I can't help it. I root for the underdogs.
And apparently shows that elicit the automatic smugness and the "how plebian!" reaction seem to fall into my underdog category.

4. IMHO, Taylor did a good job.
Elliott was fantastic. He sang an incredibly difficult song.

The performance of the night, though, was contestant #10 (was his name Chris?). He was absolutely awesome. I would actually buy music of his.

The teenyboppers sucked.

7. Yeah, those three were the ones. We could have shortened the

show to thirty minutes and just shown those three and I would have been happy.

But I'm concerned that Taylor is coasting on his buzz and he's not putting much work into his performances. He seemed a little lax tonight.

8. He needs to stop with the "whews". He was saying
and singing that way too much.

The girls last night...whew, what can I say. The only ones I thought were any good were Melissa and Kelly (contestants 4 and 9). Everyone else was just boring.

9. The girls were just AWFUL. Even the ringers were bad.
The Katie Holmes lookalike and Mandisa? "Medusa"? (as a friend mistakenly called her) were NOT impressive.

Although I did think the basketball player was a pleasant surprise. I think it's funny that every week she gets the "pleasant surprise" vote.

10. Mandisa was great last week. It seemed like she was shouting the
lyrics last night, though. She can sing. I hope she makes it through.

Tomorrow night should prove interesting.

11. Nah
Edited on Thu Mar-02-06 12:52 AM by mvd
If you mean Katharine, she's not a Katie Holmes look alike (she's even prettier IMO,) and she sounded fine - her song choice was boring. Mandisa's voice stood out, but she could have picked a better fit for a song.

I thought the basketball player was just ok.

Tonight, I thought that Gedeon and Bucky were the best. Bucky's take on "The Thunder Rolls" was a great version that sounded like a countrier take. Ace wasn't quite as good as last week, but I love his voice.

16. I did like Bucky better this week, but I wonder if it's just that I could
understand what he was singing for a change.

There was a little Las Vegas in Gedeon's "A Change is Gonna Come" that irritated me no end. Frankly, I could hear Taylor singing that better than Gedeon.

It was a perfect 10 IMO. With Bucky, I don't think he's hard to understand. He has a bit of country/southern rock twang, but I like it.

18. Must have something to do with familiarity with the song.
For instance, Gideon put too much polish on "Change...", which bugged me no end. I'm partial to the Sam Cook's version. Rough around the edges, a little more worldly.

And no, Bucky wasn't hard to understand. This week. Last week there was some mushiness to the vocals. But I'm unfamiliar with the original version of the song, and he might have been Lynyrd Skynyrd reincarnated, for all I know.

And being a jazz fan I'm familiar with several versions of "Moody's Mood", which is why I was so excited over Elliott's. His version was spot on. The degree of difficulty on that song is pretty high, and he didn't miss a note.

The band on AI is bound to put a little more polish on things. There was nothing wrong with Gedeon IMO.

There was no mushiness either. It's just how Skynyrd is.

Taylor wasn't up to par tonight, but I still love him. Elliott has a great voice, I wasn't in love with his song choice, but that's just me. And I like Bucky.

19. totally agree with you
Taylor hinged on getting annoying, too many "hoos" as someone already pointed out

My fave is that Elliot guy aka Stevie Wonder, man he has got the voice down doesn't he? I love Stevie, and I get chills hearing this guy do him

But I voted for #7 Bobby/Peter Brady because he also has a strong voice and I don't want him to go

This is my first season watching this show, after years of making fun of everyone who does, lol

I find that I usually agree with Simon

33. I'm pulling for Taylor
IMO, Taylor has the best voice of them all. Take away the "Heys" and the "Hoos" and take away the mannerisms and he has the best pure voice of them all. Second is that young kid they compared to Chicken Little. A shame that neither of them will win because they aren't marketable.

25. I can't help it. I love AI.
The picks to go home this week are easy: Heather Cox and Brenna, the annoying crooner guy (David?) and, unfortunately, "Sway" (who I like so much, but he's not up there.)

I didn't think there was a huge standout for the girls this week. Mandisa and Lisa Taylor are very good, and either could win.

After this week, it's going to start getting tough.

Chris Daughtry won the week, hands down. He was near perfect in song choice and performance, and his looks are SO different from anyone who's won before. He didn't stand out to me in the beginning, but now I think he's awesome.

Chris sang a Fuel song. I'm not crazy about the Fuels and Creeds of the world. On the bright side, he did sound like he could be on the radio singing it.

If I had it my way, Katherine, Paris, Kellie, Mandisa, and Lisa would be the top 5 girls. I think they all have a good chance of actually being in the top 5.
