Someone Is Going To Make A Movie About This (Unbelievable Sports Story)
Edited on Wed Feb-22-06 11:41 PM by Magic Rat
There's this kid who suffers from autism. He's on his high school basketball team in upstate New York, basically as a team manager. That means that he sits on the end of the bench, fetches water for the players and basically cheers them on. But he never, never plays.

Except tonight, when the coach put him in the game for his final home game (he's a senior).

He air-balled his first shot.

Then, amazingly, unbelievably, he hit his next shot....

..and the one after that..

..and the one after that...

...and after that...

He finished with 20 points.

This kid with autism who had never gotten into a game before.

I don't know where this story is online, or if its online yet. But I just saw it on SportsCenter. I have a feeling we'll all be hearing more about this story soon.

1. I've read that autistic kids are often very, very talented
and smart, to heights we could never believe.

It's really sad that we can't look past certain things to see the beautiful people inside...

3. Autistic kid at our high school was a mathmatical genius...
he'd always show up the math teachers and could take apart the most complex equations. It blew our minds and we would wish he could teach us a few things. I have no idea what happened to him, but he was just incredible.

Last night, we showed the amazing video of an autistic kid who did the unthinkable at a recent Greece Athena basketball game. He scored 20 points in the last four minutes. Dave Yates sat down with this young star about what seems like a fairy tale dream.

"My first shot was an airball, by a lot. Then I missed a layup and then as soon as the first shot went in and then the second shot, as soon as that went in I just started to catch fire," says Jason.

Like any good Hollywood story, this one has a twist. Not only had Jason never played in varsity game before, he's also autistic.

5. I wonder since he has made one basket he will continue to make
them. It sounds like an autistic thing - knowing exactly how far and how much force and angle you must put on the ball to get it in. It will be really interesting to find out what happens to him.
