Good, inexpensive Chinese restaurant in Van Nuys?

My g/f and I are taking her 86-yr-old father out for dinner and we thought we'd do Chinese. Problem is that he doesn't like to spend very long in the car and we don't know any good places near where he is (near the corner of Vanowen and Van Nuys).

Anybody have any recommendations?

1. I don't know too many out that way, but
Mandarin Deli, on Reseda, is a good deal and offers great soup-noodle dishes and the like. can't recall the corss-street, but it's toward the north, on the left hand side as you need north along the Boulevard. Been a while since I've been there, but I think it's near King's Mongolian BBQ. It's a sister to a poky little place in Monterey Park, so you know it's good!

Actually, even closer - I just thought of this - is California Wok down on the south side of Ventura Blvd, in Encino, almost across from Chevy's. Just around the corner from Van Nuys Blvd. Superb food at great prices.

Yeah, California Wok. Dude! Here's their number: (818) 386-0561

And, sure enough, I'm suddenly famished.

Good luck!

2. That's in the center with Kinko's and Jerry's right?

I've eaten there before.. and yeah, it was good. May be a bit farther than we intend to go, but prolly in range.

Thanks.

3. Yep!
Mm-mm, good! Wherever you go, I hope you all have a good night out. No shortage of eating establishments thereabouts, at least.

4. God! What memories!
I used to work a few blocks east of Van Nuys Blvd at Roscoe and Woodman, and when I hear anything about good ole LA, it starts the memory cells working overtime. Philip Woo had a restaurant on Van Nuys, just north of Roscoe. That was a long time ago, so it probably isn't still there, and Phillip Woo probably isn't still alive. Mr Woo, for those not in the know, is a Chinese American who made a career out of playing Japanese army officers in films during the great WW two.
Thanks for the memory trip of good ole LA!
