Anyone know what this symbol means?
I've seen it on a couple cars now during my commute, it's an anchor with a red "not allowed" symbol (circle with line through it) over it. Anyone know?

4. No Navy? Or 'Against' Navy?
Perhaps it's an Army/Navy game reference?

5. Do not anchor?
Edited on Fri Feb-17-06 11:47 AM by Call Me Wesley
I've only seen it on marine sites, like 'Do not anchor in the coral reef.'

6. Right, but why put it on a car?
I'm just wondering if there's a symbolism I'm missing, or something. Who knows?

9. Does it look like this?

If so, it's "Don't anchor in a reef."

10. Nope, more like

But it's a little more stylized than that. Still, it's a very basic, black anchor, vertical, behind that kind of red cross-out.

14. Did it look like this?

The anchor cross was a symbol for early christians so a circle and a line across it would mean.... :)

15. Erm... kinda?
I think it maybe had a rope through the top of the anchor, as well. If I see it again, I'll try to get a closer look. Maybe it's an ex-fundie symbol? LOL

16. The only problem with my interpretation
is that I'm not aware of any fundie group using that as a symbol. The fish? Sure.

From About.com:

An early covert Christian symbol. It continues the symbolism of the ichthus, or "jesus fish," and represented the Church. It is one of several cross forms called 'dissimulata," meaning "dissimilar." It is a symbol commonly found in the Christian catacombs. The sybol predates Christianity as a pagan symbol.

So did it look like this?

12. Google says
Anchor is an early symbol of Christianity.

Anchor has become a common theme in tattoos symbolizing stability.

Curious. But why cross it out?

Interesting.

19. It refers to vehicles that might as well be boat anchors
ie: not fuel efficient.
