I need help from DUers in or near New Orleans!
;)

(Hi Maddy!)

I am interested in going to the second weekend of Jazzfest--

Could you please post hotels near there (best to stay in French Quarter?) and anything you might know about public transportation to and from the area?

Any helpful hints?

Michael has never been to NO--I have been going since I was 14, and love the place. I think I would like to stay in the Quarter just because I can't flipping wait to get to the Cafe du Monde--I mean I can't wait! That Beignet place in Memphis is cool--but, they don't taste "right."

1. I love the Inn on Bourbon.
Puts you right in the center of the Quarter, on Bourbon Street.

Make sure to get a room with a balcony facing Bourbon. You don't even have to leave the room to actually be on Bourbon--you can just walk out on the balcony.

If you stay in the quarter, you don't have to worry about transportation. Valets will park your car, and you can get it out whenever you want, of course. The Inn on Bourbon is dead center in the middle of the Quarter, so you're maybe six blocks from Jax Square, and maybe 4 blocks from the Acme Oyster House...And there are street cars running all of the time...I think you can ride for a dollar or two.

Here's their website--if you want to be in the center of the action in a nice hotel, it's the place to stay:

www.innonbourbon.com

Talk to Swamp Rat before you make reservations--he lives in the city, so his advice would be my "final say" if I were you.

:-) :hi:

2. How far is it to where Jazzfest is?
Can we ride the streetcar?

Are you going? Do you want to go?

3. Jazzfest used to go on beside the river, on the edge of the quarter.
And you could ride the streetcar to the festival.

I don't know where it will be this year, though.

I won't make it this year. I'm furiously writing and researching--my only break for the next few months will be to go to a Mardi Gras parade this weekend. However, if you and Jan Michael drive through, let me know, and I'll meet you guys for a cup of coffee. :hi:

4. Looks like it's been moved this year, though.
"The Heritage Fair takes place at the Fair Grounds Race Course, centrally located at 1751 Gentilly Boulevard, 10 minutes from the French Quarter. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. "
