3. What a cute poem!
One legend of St. Valentine has it that Valentinus was a priest who performed marriages for young Roman soldiers, who were not legally allowed to marry, and that he was martyred for this crime against the Roman emperor's law. Maybe I'm just an old romantic at heart, but I think there's a lesson there for those of us living in a country that has set its law against marriage rights for gay people. Valentinus broke the stupid laws that criminalized loving committment, and was declared a saint for it; the brave people who break today's stupid laws that criminalize loving committment may be the saints of some future, more enlightened time.
