Anybody else used to watch Degrassi...and care to admit it?

It was broadcast on the CBC, and living just across the river from Windsor, I used to watch it *all* the time, but I'll deny it in real life.

It was actually a good show, for its time, with episodes dealing with AIDS,suicide, drugs, teen pregnancy. I remember thinking how *advanced* Canadians were.

It is actually the precursor to 90210, as Aaron Spelling tried to purchase it, and Playing With Time said no...so he was forced to foist the West Bev kids on us.

This show has a new generation of fans. My daughter loves Degrassi: The Next Generation and will also watch the reruns of the "Old School"...and loves to make fun of Spike's hair.

Anyone with me on this? Or have I lost you all? :hi:

1. Was it in the 80's or 90's? If I did see it....

2. I think the first episode was in '87.
Of course, I was 17, and it should have been beneath me, but...

It was the grandma to 90210. :hi: You can watch it again on Noggin and Nickelodeon. ;)

3. That's about the same time as "21 Jump Street"
Where we were introduced to the young and brilliant Johnny Depp. Wasn't he great in "Pirates of The Caribbean"?

I love the part where the guard says:

NORRINGTON: You are without a doubt the worst pirate I have ever heard of.

JACK: Ah, but you have heard of me.

4. All the time. First Degrassi Jr. High, then Degrassi High.
Joey, Snake, Catelin, Wheels, Spike, all the kids.

I wish I had taped the shows.

5. You know, they are on again. Every night on Noggin.
We Tivo them and then I save them to disc. They also have the first three seasons out on DVD. :hi:

6. I was a fan of The Beachcombers
I never really watched Degrassi. A few times, but not much. We lived about an hour away from the Canadian border in MT, so we got CBC etc. I remember watching the Expos, Bluejays, the CFL and all that stuff. I used to get up early and watch Hercules and even a children's show called "Buckshot." I loved all that stuff.

9. I thought Joey was soooo cute.
Loved that show. I dunno, I don't think the new generation or whatever is as cool.

I used to laugh at their funny Canadian accents (um, right?).

10. My daughter is addicted to the new show, but I don't think it's as good.
One, they are bascially making over the old episodes. Joey, Snake, Spike and sometimes Caitlyn are on it as well.

We used to giggle at them too. :)

13. Not only that - I STILL watch it!

I think lots of us living in the border states in the '80s watched that show.

I also watch the new version. It's annoying to me that The N won't show the episode Manny gets an abortion (I think the episode is called "Accidents Will Happen"). I'd like to see it, because she seeks Spike's advice about her pregnancy, and I'd like to see how they handle that. :hi:

15. Shhh...I do too....Shhhh...that's how I knew it was on the N. All the Way
with Stephanie Kaye! :toast: :hi:

I was kind of bummed about the Manny episode too. Degrassi Jr. High was way ahead of its time with the subject matter... And this only proves how backwards we've become. :(
