Brown Creeper!

I just saw one of these little guys creeping up our cherry tree...
This is part of their winter range; but it's the first time I've seen one! :D

1. Tiny little fella.
What kind of call do they have? I don't know that I've ever seen one.

3. They say
"trees trees beetly trees" in a high pitched voice.

And they're cryptic little boogers.

9. Here's a link to a page
with an audio file on it. http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/136/_/Brown_Creeper.aspx
I never know how to describe their calls. My syllables sound different from the ones in the books!

16. I was struck by its tiny size
when I saw it, as it's much smaller than the nuthatches and the downy woodpeckers I usually see hunting for bugs in our tree.

12. Beautiful!
I love birds and plant items in my garden to bring certain migrating ones by our house (especially hummingbirds).

20. I'm going to hang a hummingbird feeder this summer...
We get orioles who like our yard, because we don't do too much with it. I want to find some sort of treat to keep them happy, too...

24. Hummingbirds love red
Bumblebees are attracted to yellow. So, when you are picking out your feeder, try to find one that is all red or mostly red and that will help keep the bumblebees away.

I'm not sure what orioles like so I'm not going to be much help there. Hummingbirds, however, like red, purple, blue or pink flowers with long pistols (i.e., regular sized petunias). They'll also come to yellow flowers with long pistols, but those are also very much enjoyed by bumblebees so I try to keep those to a minimum in my garden.

25. We have a trumpet vine
that's in the process of strangling a weed choke cherry (oh, the irony). The hummers LOVE the flowers. :-)

13. Kind of early for creepers, isn't it?
I always think of them as a spring migrant. I love their song too- very chirpy and burbling.

21. We're at the Northern edge of their winter range...
It could be one who got confused by our ridiculously warm January though...

23. Our cherry tree is dying...
I've decided to cut back any branches that would be a danger, and keep the rest to appeal to birds like this one. :)
