20. Wow! A memory gong ~ clang!!!
Those flowers in your first photo: I remember when living in Cupertino, those would grow in the front yard of our house there...my friends and I would chew on the stems of the clover - they had a lemony flavor to them. I had completely forgotten about that quirk of mine. Thank you Peggy!

I loved the yard around that house.

37. as an OBX Head....
I love the beach (OBX is the Outer Banks of NC) and a a photography freak (no school though) myself, I find it very difficult to get pics that convey the spirit of the ocean and beach that I love so much.

The pics of the flowers had such great detail though. Seems as though ya have a great camera.

As a PS...
I'm trying to find the only good photo I have of the OBX where I caught 3 dolphins surfing in the waves. It's the only ocean photo that I have taken and been satisfied with.

42. Thank you for explaining! I do appreciate it so much...
The camera is the Nikon D50, their newest digital.

You have a shot of a wave with three dolphins surfing? OMIGOD!

I sure hope you find it! That is really something......

I know a professional photographer out here who got a shot with five dolphins......

Absolutely incredible shot.......

Nice composition (and aperture choice) on the flowers, beautiful color gradations on that one "breaking wave" shot and the seal is a nice touch!

40. Oh thank you, my dear Canuckistanian!
Actually, we need to thank the Nikon people for the aperture settings...

I have the camera on Auto......or macro!

The breaking wave shot was one I am particularly pleased with.....

I truly love how the sunlight looks as the wave crests...and this is damnably hard to catch just right!

The seal was a complete break! I've never seen one here at my pier before...

45. Ah, serendipity, the photographer's best friend
You have a talent, Peggy. Take this from a former photographer. I think you may be interested in some books by Freeman Patterson, a Canadian photographer who advocated "lateral thinking" when taking pictures.

The theory is, take thousands of pictures. If you don't like what you take, put them aside for a while, then look again, using your imagination, even your "failures" or "mistakes". If you like a particular effect, then next time go out and try to re-create the effect.

The beauty is, you don't need to think about complicated camera settings, just go with your own flow.

Think lighting, mood and texture. Ignore "artistic creation", or trying to make a calendar-type shot.

Chances are, you'll come up with a masterpiece.

46. This is very helpful, and I thank you!
And it is very close to what I'm actually doing right now.....

Like the breaking wave. Every time I go to the beach, I try to get a wave like that, or better.....

I put the camera on auto and I become one with it. I just don't think at all, but rather feel what I want......

It's hard to explain.

I appreciate your praise as well...
