I think the NFL lost fans tonight with that snoozefest.

John Madden, please just STFU. Your presence in the booth made the whole affair seem very unspecial.

And, oh, by the way, the Seahawks got jobbed by the referees. Almost every big play by the Seahawks got called back with a questionable penalty.

ZZZZZ

Bring back the Patriots -- always exciting.

Only Evil Doers would oppose the Patriots.

* Adding a wig wag wing salute to the Steelers, who played a tough game.

49. With All Due Respect, And In a More Serious Tone,
There are always questionable calls. But the fact is if the Seahawks deserved to win they would've found a way to win. Good teams always do, in spite of the calls that don't go their way.

Fact is, the refs had nothing to do with the two interceptions (even if one came after a call). They had nothing to do with Pittsburgh pulling off the gadget plays, one of which led to an amazing touchdown. Fact is, the refs calls only meant so much. If the Seahawks had played a good enough game to win, they would've won. Fact is, they simply didn't.

and the holding call against Seattle.

You can't win a game when the rules apply to only one team.

bad calls or not. The good teams always find a way to win. That's how it works. They didn't. And they didn't stop Pittsburgh either after the calls. They could've. They didn't. They lost. Oh well.

157. I remember saying the same thing to Pittsburgh fans
after some thanksgiving game when the refs gave the coin toss to Detroit, but I did not see this game. Alot of true fans also do not seem to care how their teams wins.

Your statement is clearly not true anyway. In the playoff game where Rice fumbled and the Packers recovered, the Packers had that game won, except the refs called in a non-fumble. True, in theory, they could have stopped the niners again, but how do you expect a team to win when the refs give Barry Bonds an extra three strikes after you've already struck him out once? That is just a bogus win.

51. The refs
I don't think so, the game was reasonably refereed. If it was not as exciting that was in part because Seattle simply didn't seem up to it. Nonetheless, Seattle is a good team. It will be interesting to see what they do next year.

103. don't forget the penalties
every time Seattle had a big play which would have put them inside the 10, Shaun Alexander territory, there was a phantom holding call!!!

And how about the phantom Ruthlessburger TD, or the low block on Hasselback as he made the tackle!

NFL had the fix on, had to protect it's investment!!!!

The refs were 100% prejudiced against the SeaHawks, including calling the touchdown back. That one holding penalty never occurred. The replays showed that.

The Seahawks were the superior team by far.

41. I live in Detroit and have been dealing with SB XL fever...
...for a few days now. The traffic sucked and there really was no parking...tons of shut down streets.

I will admit that, if anything, I was generally more prejudiced towards Pittsburgh going in...them being another blue collar town and all. After watching this game, though, I can say only one thing: I absolutely, positively, will never understand some of the calls made against Seattle in this game. Seriously. :-(

In the end, I really want the best team to win. And after some of the calls I saw, I am not sure that happened. Not sour grapes at all...I had no dog in this show. Just crazy calls, IMHO.

Sorry, but you're wrong about the holding call. That guy got beaten to the outside by getting outquicked and he clearly hooked the guy with his right arm. That will get called every single time.

And "superior teams by far" don't get beaten.

In the heart of Motown, a city with a legendary music history synonymous with the city of Detroit, NFL brings in the Stones for a SB halftime show appearance?

I like the Stones, but I wish Jagger could have taken the high road -- he could have declined or postponed the appearance to SBXLI, which will be in Florida.

35. As a Steeler fan, I'd say too many calls went the Steeler's way...
Looked to me like the officials wanted a Steeler's win.

The "offensive pass interference" call in the 1st quarter was particularly stinky

It's bad enough that the game was held in a supposedly "neutral" stadium. Yeah, sure, 300 miles away from the Steelers, and 2,500 miles away from the Sea Hawks.

88. Yeah...like they selected the stadium knowing these teams would be in it
Gimme a break...

Sour grapes, start to finish. While the holding call was relatively minor, it was holding, and it slowed down the defender just long enough to let the Seattle QB get the pass off. Correct call. As for the offensive pass interference, the Seattle WR clearly pushed off while the ball was in the air. Another correct call. The fact that even the choice of stadium was "prejudice" and "bias" against the Seahwaks in your twisted worldview says all we need to know about your other charges. Have a drink, eat the loss and move the fuck on. Steelers won. Deal with it.

38. The AFC playoff games were more exciting than this
I dunno why but this Super Bowl seemed rather boring.

Most Superbowls I am definitely for one team and solidly against another.

I picked the Steelers to win but I didn't find the Seahawks to be a "bad guy" team either. Just kind of bland.

I can think of at least 3 AFC playoff games, leading up to this, that were more exciting than the actual Super Bowl.

Broncos vs Patriots,
Steelers vs Broncos,
Steelers vs Indy.

Each one of those games was more exciting than this one.

And did you see the little segment on the guy who was a hostage during the Iran hostage crisis - "they wouldn't give in to Carter's demands" but then they show Reagan getting them released immediately, without telling the story about how a deal was worked out ahead of time. Pure right wing propaganda.

I'm not sure I've ever been through a super bowl with so little in the way of standout performances. But Ward did provide an important spark on a number of occasions. It didn't seem like there was really a standout player, but that's probably appropriate given the way the Steelers have played the last few weeks--and the whole team effort with everyone punching the clock and bringing their lunch pail seems more in keeping with the team's personality.

very good ones in recent years.

I've been thinking about this.. I DID feel that Seattle got jobbed somewhat by the refs. Then, I thought that PGH made many more big plays than Seattle even though Seattle's offense outperformed PGH's for the most part. But then when I thought about a couple of Seattle's big plays that got called back, I kind of have mixed feelings about it.

But I thought the game was overall disappointing, especially considering the high level of play PGH had been showing through the playoffs.

Seahawks lose chances, catches, points, and Super Bowl

"We did some things that were uncharacteristic of us," he said.

Such as four crucial penalties. Two missed field goals by Josh Brown. Three dropped passes, all by tight end Jerramy Stevens -- the co-creator of last week's only controversy with Porter. A catch on the goal line with only one foot inbounds. Two calls by the officials that Seattle will be debating all winter, spring and summer.

That mess directly resulted in 18 lost points -- including a disputed Steelers touchdown -- two lost first downs, 176 lost yards.

Will the refs get a ring too? They sure earned it.

The NFL is very protective of it's product. Do you think they are going to allow a team no one cares about or know anything about (Seattle) defeat one of the most storied franchises like Pittsburgh? Do you think the NFL is going to do 3 weeks of playoffs and 2 weeks of Super Bowl prep and not force the refs to make Jerome Bettis win his final game in his home town?

It's like the tuck rule in 2001. Did you think the NFL was going to allow the Raiders (synonymous with Terrorist) defeat the Patriots???

114. Whine! Whimper!
Please, stop with the BS. One truly bad call, granted it took a TD away from Seattle, but really, one bad call. If you follow football at all, you would realize that there is a potential game changing call in each and every game. Witness the non-interception call in the Pit-Indy game.

Refs are human, and sometimes they get it wrong. Teams have to suck it up and go on, and most do. The Seahawks blew opportunity after opportunity, especially in the first half. And their coaching staff apparently couldn't make the needed adjustment against either the Pit offense and defense. Even throwing out the bad call, Pittsburgh outlayed and outcoached Holmgren and the Seahawks.

But year after year, some sour grapes can't bring themselves to see the reality of game, and instead blame the loss on the refs, the fans, the ball, or anything other than the team. Pathetic.

do you always talk out of your butt like this? What case are you resting? I can't figure out what you are going on about. Please back up the trash talk ... who is classless and why exactly? And Neo-cons? Please - are you referring to Bettis? And I suppose Hasselbeck is a liberal ... :eyes:

You seem to be the sore one - I hear Preparation H helps.

You say it -- anyone with one brain cell can see that the game was jobbed -- deep down, Steelers fans know it's a hollow victory.

159. Classless ....hmmmmm
let me think...

many of the Pittsburgh Steelers are committed to charitable work in the Pittsburgh area, whether it is a children's charity or groups that provide free heat to the poor.

Oh...and the Rooney's...the owners are down to earth kind of people who also give a lot to charity locally.

unlike the other teams...we thankfully don't have "cheerleaders" which make women look like objects...

and....Pittsburgh is a blue collar, Democratic Town...

Dallas vs my beloved BALTIMORE Colts, that was a real stinker. The Colts won but it was ugly and wrong.

142. And they gave the MVP to someone from Dallas!
Wouldn't you just know, the only time that's happened. As they got back toward the beginning of yestreday's MVP-fest, I'm like, "Here comes V! Here comes V!", only to have it be yet another Dallas Cowsissy (parody team name (c) 2005 LynneSin). :puke:

124. They're ALL forgettable...unless it's your sport with your team playing.
Sure, there's the occasional moments that stand out, but if it's not YOUR team, you don't really care to see it/remember it.

I couldn't tell you who won the World Series, except for Boston, over the past 10-15 years. Why, because the Pirates suck consistently and I generally find baseball incredibly boring.:boring:

I don't care how many people didn't watch or care for last night's Superbowl. I cared and my team won, so I'm happy. :-)

128. The stealers fans, and the Seahawk haters don't understand
Yes, the stealers were the darling, the NFL HAD to have them win...

Now lets fast forward to next year, when the Colts or the Bengals are the darlings and the hype for a SB victory is deafening.

Do you think for 1 minute that they wouldn't turn the game against the stealers?

You just don't get it, if they did it to Seattle they can do it to ANYBODY.

So, next year when the stealers lose to the Colts or Bengals with the same type of officiating, don't cry about it...

It is a OFFICIATING problem that needs to be addressed by the NFL.

The stealers didn't win that game, it was GIVEN to them.

Oh and I didn't misspell their name.

I admit that Ben wasn't playing well last night, but he played well enough that with some passing help from Randle-El, he beat your sorry asses!

Why don't you show some class yourself and quit crying about a game that your team played horribly. Your clock management was especially nice!

152. Evidently, the national media thinks there's a problem as well
>Why don't you show some class yourself and quit crying about a game that your team played horribly.<

First of all, I have been nothing but complimentary and kind to Steelers fans on these boards and IRL. I have gone out of my way to celebrate their victory in the face of a truly crushing loss for Seattle fans.

I have read MULTIPLE articles this morning, from MANY different outside of Seattle sources, that there was a problem with the officiating of yesterday's game. Laugh at us if you like, but when it's finally your team's turn, you won't think it quite so funny.

The Seahawks did not play their A+ game yesterday, but at the same time, the multiplicity of calls that just happened to stop any momentum they got going is a bit too weird to be coincidence. The pregame hype and media coverage was also heavily slanted towards a Steelers win. I'd like to think it's because we're a "younger" team.

Julie

the only thing that will be remembered about this superbowl is the winner. That's probably why you're so upset.

160. It wasn't a boring game at all. It was anyone's game until the late...
4th quarter, there were super-bowl-record breaking plays. Trick plays. And of course what can be more exciting than the suspense of wondering if a decision of the officials will be overturned?
