Giving a car to the Super bowl MVP is ridiculous....
The guys who win these cars all make fabulous money..... The stadiums they play in are all paid for with public money so that we are actually subsidizing their salaries...

The car companies are giving the cars away so it is a tax deduction which means one way or another, you and I are gonna end up picking up the tab for that as well...

So why not make a contribution in the players name to a favorite charity...

That's what they do on the collegiant level...

Why not give something back to the community instead of always taking taking taking...

Oh and please don't get me started on their United Way charity public relations... The United Way is so political and mets out the money with an eye on politics rather than need...

So why doesn't the NFL combine with some of these companies and give the money to those who need it most....

3. It's free advertising
And it's just another in the long list of reasons why I despise the marketing / advertising industry.

5. They don't get any additional tax deduction
if they sold the care, it would be deducted as Cost of Goods Sold. Now its deducted as an advertising expense. Its the same deduction, for the same amount.

In fact, the NFL player will have to pay taxes on recieving it, whereas a normal buyer wouldn't owe taxes -- so net,net the government recieves more in taxes than they would have if the car had been sold.

That being said, they donate inkind gifts because whether its given to a charity or a player, the corporation gets the same tax deduction. But inkind donations get them more money for the dollar -- $50k of recongition for only $40k cost.

9. I understand that....
But they would get free publicity and a tax deduction worth about the same...

As for the players... who cares..

The multiplier effect of the charitable cash introduced into the economy would probably result in more money for the treasury than the extra tax money withdrawn from the economy when the player is taxed....

6. Rich people always get free stuff..
The "goodie bag" at the Academy Awards is rumored to be worth $50K, and hundreds of people will be getting them :puke:

Lots of poor people could be fed with that money, but it's all advertising and food to poor people is not "sexy".

11. That's just a lot of crap....
That bothers the hell out of me as well...

And we are suppose to swoon with envy and awe that these "celebrities" are so worth every bit of extra perks they can rake in....

12. It's all about marketing.
Football is big business because it allows other big businesses a venue to market their wares, and this is just one of those ways.
