1. Old, slow and sad.
I saw the Stones in 1975 when they were at their peak. Tonight they looked old and emaciated.
Watching the "Old Man" Rolling Stones is like watching the "Old Man" Three Stooges films of the 1960's.
Sad.

5. LOL.
Funny comparison.

I made my son watch it with me, even though he was bored to tears. I told him..."You better watch this. When one of those geezers dies, it's going to be bigger than the Pope's or Reagan's death."

:D

20. But they were still #1 band in the world in 75. Led Zep a close 2nd. IMHO.
Billy Preston was with the band on that tour.

Old Boston Garden in August. No AC at all. About 109 degrees w/humidity inside that old monstrosity. I never saw so many police dogs at one place, in my life. All types of dogs too. Dalmations, Collies, Mastif, St Bernard, Weimerana <sp>, and other non-traditional attack dogs. Cops were present and heavily armored. I wont get into the police brutality I witnessed that night.

They played for 3,1/2 hours with three curtain calls. Preston was awesome that night. He got to do some of his own stuff in between rows of Stones songs.

During "Jumping Jack Flash" a hole opened up on the stage floor where a giant 40 ft, air blown, condom came up and flapped around. Jagger then mounted it and rode it like on a horse. Hey, I was 19 and lovin every minute of it.

They were still great tonight. I guess that their appearances were a little disturbing.

3. Fucking TERRIBLE!
True story

My parents called me from a bar in Orlando, wondering if it was REALLY that bad because they couldn't hear too well due to being in a bar.

FUcking pathetic, they need to go, I think Jagger forgot half the lyrics, or just stopped caring.

Fuck them. Fuck off, Stones.

And Mick, you're only allowed to show that much mid-riff if you're a 19 year old girl.

47. The Stones Have Always Been Sloppy Live
Always. And overrated. But they get away with it because they're the Stones.

That said, the sound was horrid not just for the Stones, but the whole game through. If you saw the musicial acts in the pre-game show, you'll know the sound was just as bad for them.

All the way through the first Stones song, all you could hear was Mick's mic and Keith's guitar. You could almost hear Woody.

Somewhere in Detroit there's a sound guy who's embarrassed to be alive tonight.

Someone should have told or tell that to Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, David Bowie, Louis Armstrong and many other people who continued to play music after 30.

It's cool to see people still doing that at 62 years old. I hate to think there is an age limit on when people need to quit playing music because people don't like wrinkles.

17. Mick Jagger once said he'd rather be dead than playing at 50.
My, how times change.

I think their best moments were when Brian Jones was still with them (and us).

Then again I did see them in 2002 (Forty Licks tour, in Hartford), and it was a fun time. But they seem to need more backing musicians now than they ever did (including backing vocalists).

I thought the "We could've played this song at Super Bowl I" to be kind of cute.

But Bill Wyman said it best - Brian Jones was the SOUL of the group. And when playing in Detroit, that's pretty much all you need.

At least I saw them before Mick & Keith turned 60.

I've always liked Charlie, probably because he's a jazz drummer at heart, and he sees how ridiculous the whole thing really is.

But I think as long as Keith still walks the earth (does he qualify as undead?), they will roll on.

So part of me wishes they'd just hang it up (especially now that I've seen them). But I do like the fact that they can still ruffle some feathers (Sweet Neo-Con, anyone?) at 60.

56. In a recently released Dick Cavett DVD set....
...Cavett asked Jagger if he could see himself performing at 60 (this was in 1972). Jagger says "yes". So, depends on the interview. Actually, the quote you're referencing is about singing 'Satisfaction' at the age of 50, not singing in general. The audience prevents him from kicking that song out of the set. And everytime I see them that one song is the one that gets the entire audience on their feet.

BTW, that Cavett DVD is wonderful. One whole DVD is devoted to Janis Joplin. And the interviews with performers who just came back from Woodstock is a total time warp; almost tragic to look back at the enthusiasm.

Especially the choice of songs. 'Start Me Up' and 'Slow Justice' sounded all right, but 'Satisfaction' sounded phoned in.

I have no problem with their ages. I don't see what that has to do with music.

21. The sound equipment was garbage ...

The mixing was way off. Sometimes you couldn't hear Mick at all. At others you could only hear him. Then all you heard was the screaming of the fans. It was like being in the nosebleed seats at a concert sitting in the midst of screamers.

They did as well as they could under the circumstances.

22. Not too bad
I enjoyed the set. Of course the censors bleeped out stuff according to an article on AOL's home page. I wondered what the heck was going on as I singing along to the lyrics and suddenly a word or two weren't there. I wondered if Mick was loosing it, but apparently not - it was the censors' deciding that lines like "you make a dead man come" were too racy. Oy. My 3 year old daughter loved the music and danced the entire set. When it was over she wanted more. So did I for that matter.

and the consensus was that it was pitiful. Not even us "oldsters" wanted to see Mick showing his bellybutton and jumping around in pants painted around his bowed senior citizen legs. The music was decent and enjoyable for us "oldsters" but his clothes bordered on obscene. Mick should either retire, or get himself a good fashion consultant.

She can't stand the Rolling Stones. She grew up about 10 years after I did, when the Stones were already becoming parodies of what they used to be. She can't believe they were ever good, but I tried to convince her that once they were exciting. (She agreed that "Wild Horses" was a good song.)

I must admit they were pretty pathetic tonight. I recall that John Lennon said something about not wanting to be jumping around when he was an old man. The Stones would have done better to have retired gracefully.

'Retha though, she did a pretty decent version (for her part) of the "Star Spangled Banner." It's a shitty national anthem, I think, all blood and gore, but some singers can do it in such a way as to make it almost moving. 'Retha was almost there.

I'll never forget Smokey Robinson doing the Star Spangled Banner at some sporting event, when he broke into the middle of the rendition to sing "America." It was fucking beautiful.

Being a native Detroiter, I was perturbed that the Stones were chosen for this half-time show. The people who created the Motown sound would have been a better choice, or Eminem, or IGGY and THE STOOGES! If they really wanted to go out on a limb (fat chance, this is football) they could have had the White Stripes. Really! Save The Stones for some half-time show in a city that doesn't have a fabulous musical heritage.

Actually, the Rolling Stones looked pretty much the same as they ever did. True, they sounded a bit worse. It's the times that have changed. Now instead of skinny, homely boys running around the stage in tight pants people want to see naked thirteen year olds bumping and grinding.

The sound system was bad today. It was bad during the Motown pre game show, too. Why would the sound system be bad at the Super Bowl? Were they saving money by getting the homeless to work as both sound technicians and referees?

68. The Stones are quite fit and active for guys in their early 60s
The age jokes are dumb. All the Stones, even Keith, is in much better physical condition than most guys that age, including most of their rock contemporaries.

Mick had plenty of energy and vitality on the stage. The sound quality was not the best, but I thought they did a good job.

I've seen the Stones in a relatively small concert setting, and they are a great live performance band.
