Groundhog Day consensus:
Punxsutawney Phil delivered some unwelcome news. The large crowd gathered in Gobbler's Knob, Penn., groaned loudly after learning the chunky critter saw his shadow, indicating six more weeks of winter.

In Ontario Canada, Wiarton Willie didn't see his shadow, neither did the woodchuck Shubenacadie Sam, In Nova Scotia, signifying an early spring.

and now you know :)

1. If it's 6 more weeks of sunny, snow-free, 40 degree temp. "winter"
then I'm ok with that. I'm all for it. :)

2. I've always seen Punzsutaweny Phil
as a lying little rodent. No matter what he sees or does not see when they drag him out of his hole--there is always at least 6 more weeks of winter.

3. I believe we'll have an early spring in up-state New York.
The forsythia, willows and brambles are all showing a change in the color of their bark.
I can see new green shoots of crocus sticking up from the brown winter grass.
The goldfinches have begun their moult toward yellow.
I can see signs of Spring in the northeast!

:hi:

4. That can all change with just one cold snap.
My tulips came up once in January. Then died when the weather got colder. I base spring on Easter. If Easter falls in March, we have an early spring. If it falls in the second half of April, we have a late spring.

8. The General Lee in GA did not see his shadow
But I think we're already in the middle of spring, so it's no big deal.

Actually, it's usually the exact opposite of whatever they say, so we're probably in for one hell of a snowstorm soon. YAY!! :bounce:
