Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 06:21 PM by KamaAina
you remember, where if you went to walmart.com's page for the Planet of the Apes TV series and clicked "similar items", everything that came up had to do with African-Americans :grr: Perhaps the Queen has not yet heard of this situation? Maybe one of us needs to inform her...

edit: Bush is not a President, and "wen't" is not a contraction.

17. I haven't been to Pizza Hut since Rush Limbaugh did a commericial for them
:grr:

I had just replied to Ronny and mentioned about artists selling out to endorse products and that's understandable. I mean, I still adore Led Zeppelin even though I have to put up with those damn Cadillac commericials using "Rock & Roll".

But there are some companies that to me are not acceptable for endorsements and Wal-Mart is one of them. I understood why Garth Brooks, Jesse McCarthey and Martina McBride did the Wal-Mart commercials because hell - that's their prime target. I was shocked over Destiny's Child but I didn't like their music so it was a moot point. But this poignant, well-spoken, talented African-American woman who had songs that were about the repression of her heritage and what the hell is she doing endorsing Wal-Mart

4. She hawks for fucking wal-mart - she's an ugly corporate pig!
Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 06:13 PM by LynneSin
Great, a woman and rapper who once put out some really potent songs about the ills of society and how cruel it can be for women is now hawking fucking wal-mart. And I loved her stuff - played her "All Hail the Queen" like it was my freaking Bible on Tape. Amazingly powerful work she had done, but that was then and now it's all about greed!

She's a greedy corporate pig and fucking ugly in my book. If she really cared about they way she she rapped in "All Hail the Queen" she wouldn't be caught dead doing anything for Wal-mart which not only represses women but is even worse if you're an African-American woman with a dead-end job at Wal-mart

15. Trust me, I use to absolutely adore her
She was this awesome rapper who made something of herself, her music was powerful stuff and affected me so much when I was struggling.

She's a sell out. I hate Wal-Mart and everything it does to our society. It wipes out communities and leaves nothing left except for people to not only have to shop there but take jobs since so many other community stores were wiped out. And if you were stuck working Wal-Mart you're making minimum wage but working maximum+ hours (and not getting paid overtime) with no benefits. And what's worse is my Tax Dollars subsidize Wal-Mart since they are too fucking cheap to give their employee benefits while those lazy-ass Walton kids are sitting around each worth several billions soaking up the profits from screwing over America.

Ronny, I absolutely adore you but I stand my line. When I saw that first commercial for Wal-Mart with Queen Latifah it fucking BROKE MY HEART!! Because her was someone who I respected, who I thought was ideologically similar to my own who fucking SOLD OUT to promote a business that represses who she use to be and what she would rap about in her music.

She's a sell out. Hell, I don't care that Celebrities loan their name & music out to businesses - that's standard. But Wal-Mart is just the line that she crossed that I cannot forgive.

I'll leave you when the summertime,
Leave you when the summer comes a-rollin',
Leave you when the summer comes along.

Babe, babe, babe, babe, babe, babe, baby, mmm, baby
I don't wanna leave you,
I ain't jokin' woman, I've got to ramble.
Oh, yeah, baby, baby, I'll be leavin',
Really got to ramble.
I can hear it callin' me the way it used to do,
I can hear it callin' me back ho--oo-ome!

Babe, oh, Babe, I'm gonna leave you
Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you
Oh, I can hear it callin' me
I said, don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?
Oh!

I know, I know, I know I'm never, never, never, never, never, never, never,
Gonna leave you babe
But, I got to go away from this place,
I've got to quit you, yeah
Oh!! Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby,
Oh, don't you hear it callin' me?
Oh, woman, woman, I know, I know
It feels good to have you back again
And I know that one day baby, it's gonna really grow, yes it is.
We gonna go walkin' through the park every day.
Come what may, every day, oh
My, my - my - my, my, my babe
I'm gonna leave you. Goin'
I'm gonna quit you baby
It was really, really good.
You made me happy every single day.
But now... I've got to go away!
Oh, oh

Baby, baby, baby,
That's when it's callin' me
I said that's when it's callin' me back home..."

black woman, I don't think I can give Latifah a pass for doing a Wal-Mart commercial. Sorry, asthmaticfascistwhoreog. There's thousands of directors DYING to cast a woman like that in leading roles. Why didn't she accept the lead in the last "Star Wars" movie?! I heard Lucas was thinking of dumping Hayden Christiansen for a voluptuous black woman in her thirties; why didn't she audition?

I guess it's all about making the Wal-Mart Bucks now for her.

You asked I came so behold the Queen
Let's add a little sense to the scene
I'm living positive not out here knocked up
But the lines are so dangerous I ought to be locked up
This rhyme doesn't require prime time
I'm just sharing thoughts of mine
Back again cause I knew you wanted it
>From the Latifah with the Queen in front of it
Dropping bombs you're up in arms, you're puzzled
The lines will flow like fluid while you're guzzling
The sip I drop you on a BDP-produced track
>From KRS to be exact
It's a Flavor Unit quest that today has me speaking
Cause it's knowledge I'm seeking
Enough about myself, I think it's time that I tell you
About the evil that men do

Situations, reality, what a concept!
Nothing ever seems to stay in step
So today, here is a message to my sisters and brothers
Here are some things I want to cover
A woman strives for a better life, but who the hell cares?
Because she's living on welfare
I government can't come up with a decent housing plan
So she's in no man's land
It's a sucker who tells you you're equal

You don't need him, Johannasburg's crying for freedom!

We the people hold these truths to be self-evident

But there's no response from the president

Someone's living the good life, tax-free
Except for a girl, can't find a way to be crack free
And that's just part of the message
I thought I had to send you about the evil that men do

Tell me, don't you think it's a shame?
When someone can put a quarter in a video game
But when a homeless person approaches you on the street
You can't treat him the same
It's time to teach the def, the dumb, the blind
That black-on-black crime only shackles and binds
You to a doom, a fate worse than death
But there's still time left
Stop putting your conscience on cease
And bring about some type of peace
Not only in your heart, but also in your mind
It will benefit all mandkind
Then there will be one thing that will never stop
And it's the evil that men do

and yet be at odds with that person's political stances or choices? I think it is (Fitzgerald said that this kind of sustainable dialectic was the hallmark of intelligence)

50. Well, she hosted the Katrina benefit, and that speaks volumes to me.
She's done a lot of benefit work. I don't know how she contributes to political parties, though.

Besides the Walmart ad, I have seen no indication that she's a Republican. Indeed, I can't even imagine her being one.

46. She's not ugly.

But she's not close to beautiful either.

Personal preference is everything.

64. Beautiful isn't a word that I would
Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 07:49 PM by hiaasenrocks
use to describe her. All the times I've seen her, that word never even crossed my mind.

People have different tastes, different preferences. She doesn't do "it" for me like she does for some other people. That's fine. I don't think you can debate personal preference matters. "There's no accounting for taste...."
:)

52. True, I just wish she'd get better parts in better movies.
She definitely has something (besides beauty, that is)

53. I like her too
It was easy to hate Kathy Lee becaue she was so damn annoying. I can't hate Latifah because of one thing.

56. Too much makeup; but she IS a very attractive woman.
Seeing her in everything makes me think "pop culture sellout", however. Not intentionally, but she does.

(I've always liked her. In her music, her guest spots on "Fresh Prince", et cetera.

But why did she drop the "H" at the end of "Latifah"? (too many honkeys thinking "Loofah" by accident? )

59. The one thing that always struck me about her was her skin, the woman
has the most perfect skin on her face I've ever seen.

Yes, I loathe her working for Wal-Mart, but she still has fantastic skin :P

67. I remember thinking that for the first time when she was in
"Living Single" . . . I mean, she's never been "my type" of woman, but I just remember her walking onto the set in one episode and they did a close-up of her face, and the first thought that passed through my mind was DAMN THAT WOMAN HAS SOME SMOOTH SKIN. I mean . . . she looks like she never had a zit in her life

Seriously, she's pretty and all, just not my type (I've got nothing against full-figured women either, just something I can't quite put my finger on with her).

69. No, she isn't beautiful.
In persona, yes. In personality, yes. Physically, no.

I know personally so many stunning, beautiful black women. Dana isn't one of them.

The most beautiful black women have yet to appear in the media.

The closest is Gabrielle Union. Halle doesn't really qualify, as she is biracial.

But they are out there. I've met them, seen them.

70. A flame war over whether or not Queen Latifa is beautiful leads one
to believe that DU is not exactly filled to the gills with conflict avoidant posters :D

I like her ok:thumbsup:

And very sweet. And LL Cool J is sexy as hell in that movie. But you'll fall in love with her character and you'll love the ending.
