BOCA RATON, Fla. -- A college student is claiming that actor Joe Pesci punched him in the mouth when he snapped a photo of the Oscar winner in a shopping center parking lot.
Pesci, who won the best supporting actor award in 1990 for playing a mob tough guy in "Goodfellas," has not been charged. Boca Raton police opened their probe after Juan Carlos Montenegro filed a police report Sunday against Pesci, 62.
Sgt. Jeff Kelly said police were not sure if the man who allegedly struck Montenegro was even Pesci.
The actor's attorney, Jay Julien, didn't immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday. Montenegro declined comment Tuesday, referring calls to his attorney Ramon Tourgeman, who also did not immediately return a call.
Montenegro, 24, told police he had been at a shopping center juice bar Sunday afternoon when he heard people saying Pesci was outside.
Montenegro then did some shopping before running into Pesci for the first time, the report stated. Montenegro shook the actor's hand and told him he was a big fan, the report stated.
Montenegro then purchased a camera at a Circuit City and came out to the parking lot to look for Pesci, the report said.
When he found him, he walked toward Pesci with the camera and asked for a picture, but the actor refused, saying "not now" and continuing toward his vehicle, the report stated.
But Montenegro kept asking to take a picture when Pesci suddenly turned around. That's when Montenegro took a picture, the report stated.
"Juan stated that Pesci then got furious and punched him in the mouth with his right fist," the report states.
