Poll question: East Coast or West coast? Which is the Better?
This one is simple. Those of you who have been to or have lived on both, tell me simply, which coast is better? Please dont ask what I mean by "better". Just give me your choice.
Please refrain from chiming in about the midwest or any other part of the US.
This for coastal areas only!

That is all!

4. East coast.
I've visited much of both coasts and now live on the East Coast a couple of miles from the beach, and I vote "East," no contest.

(I'm pretty much talking beaches here, as that's really how I judge a location. :) )

11. East coast has better beaches? Are you fucking kidding?
Drive the CA central coast HWY. Go to Santa Monica, Huntington Beach or San Diego!
I grew up on the east coast (MA and NH), and spent 4 years in Florida. There is no way the EC beaches even comparable with the ones out west.:silly:

14. Okay, I must be wrong.
I thought this was a question of preference. :yoiks:

Sort of like, "What's 'better,' lemons or limes?"

West Coast
The Atlantic is beautiful but it smells like salt and dead fish. The Pacific just smells like fresh air.

9. Long Beach smelled like sewage.
Sorry, but it did. And, damn that water, even at Huntington Beach, is wicked cold.:scared:

13. Did it?
I haven't been that far south, at least on the beach. But from Washington down to Santa Cruz, it just smells nice and fresh.

The water is cold but I'll accept that.

5. East coast: No mudslides, earthquakes, or brush fires.
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 07:02 PM by Redstone
Sure, we get a (very) occasional hurricane, but not many bad ones (speaking of the NORTHeast coast, here). And, though the West coast may be warmer, they don't have those wonderful fall colors we have here.

I'll stick with the East. It's less crowded than a lot of the West coast, too.

16. Correct, no earthquakes!
I don't like the idea of living between a fault line and an ocean. Maybe watching the movie "Superman" when I was little scared me off from wanting to live on the West Coast.

Things also kind of seemed more alienated to me on the West Coast among the people when I was there. It is sort of hard to describe succinctly.

24. How often do we experience earthquakes?
As oposed to hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, snow and sub-freezing weather that kills thousands on the east coast every year?

34. I agree...
for some reason I prefer pebbled shingle and rocky cliffs to long expanses of white sand beaches and palm trees. A rocky shore swept by wind and wave speaks to something deep in my soul in a way that a featureless expanse of sand and gentle rolling surf never could.

Having lived in LA, SF, and NYC, I know what I'm talking about.

I'm most partial to Los Angeles, even though it's the most Republican of the three.

I like the west coast 'cause that is where the jobs are for me. I like both coasts otherwise.

edited to add: I've lived on both coasts a couple of times, and spent some time in the middle too.

Lake Erie is so clean now that you can't even set it on fire. :)

"Put-In-Bay, I'm going for the summer
Get away, winter was a bummer
I've got some friends,
They've got a boat,
They're gonna let me sleep aboard
Put-in-Bay
We're gonna have a good time
Everyday, sittin' in the sunshine
If you're lookin' tryin' to find me
You can look me up in
Put-in-Bay"
