What is your strategy for getting a potential troll to blow their cover?

and tell them to enjoy their stay.

Or I egg them on by saying something along the lines of "I'm sure you and I will both be working very hard to insure a Democratic victory in 2006!"

sure, a couple of true-blue DU Nascar apologists (and they are aggressive, be careful) will get caught up in the net, but you can release them - and you should because they are integral part of DU's ecosystem, not to mention great people.

The rest though. . . pretty much all freepers. Scientists don't know if it's an actual gene that causes it or it's more nurture, regardless freepers can never seem to stifle the compulsion to defend their favorite driver. Once you know they like Nascar you're half-way there. At that point you can run the M.C. (Matthews/Colmes) test on them. You're 3/4 there. Then just make subtle Hillary/Moore comments and see where that gets you. By this point a freeper would show signs of acute nervous system shock.

14. Just keep 'em talking on a thread, they will always out themselves,

unambiguously if they post long enough.

The ones who have a LITTLE more subtlety usually realize when the trail is hot, and stop posting on a thread entirely for a day or so (the ones who have an "ambition" to boost their post count etc.), or they will only reply to the people who aren't obviously "on" to them.
