I have this little guy in my back yard... (CAT PIC!!)
I want to take him (her???) in. I already have 3 cats, this guy is SOOOOO nice.. really vocal and social. I dont know if hes someones cat or what.

Hes been hanging out on my front porch in a piece of scrap carpeting - just caught him there this am. I was walking with my construction guy around the back of my house and I hear him meowing from my shed. I called him and he came out meowing like mad and so I showed him where I put the food on the back and front porches.

Hubby would kill me if I brought another cat into the house. Its just so cold out. I also worry about FIV and all the other diseases. I'm thinking of catching him, putting him in my basement and blocking the cat hole so he cant get up and then take him to the vet to get spayed/neutered and shots.

Hes HUGGGGEEEEEEEE!!!!! I think he found me for a reason - I have a soft spot for cats :)

He must be someone's, since he appears well fed and well groomed. Maybe someone has put up flyers?

Keep making friends, I'd definitely at least get him neutered and such . . . if you can give him a home, do so. He looks like he'd be a great addition :P

Obviously, see if you can find out whether he has another family already, but if not, he definitely looks like a keeper.

5. Good luck w/ your decision, Purr.
I have one suggestion: most pet supply web sites, you can buy a warming plate for outdoor cats. It's just the perfect size for a cat to lay down on, a flat thing that warms up to about 104F or so - cat's body temp. The plug is wire-wrapped so critters can't chew through it. You can put a blanket or something on top so he has something to lay on.

Are you feeding him? You'd put it in about the same area. Definitely put it under shelter, of course, if you have any.

Good luck! :hi:

Hes living in my shed :(
I put the food on my covered front and back porch. I'm thikning of going in the garage and making him a box and line it with left over carpeting and putting an old blanket in it.

I want to bring him in so bad but I dont know if he belongs to someone. I'm going to go out and check on him in a bit.

20. You're a good soul. Do not worry -- reasons why not to worry:
1. He's a cat - they're wily.

2. He has a FUR COAT! Very warm.

3. He has you, and probably other people, to feed him.

4. You can take him to the humane society to see if he has a chip. They will NOT take him from you if he's not chipped.

5. He's a cat!

Don't worry.

7. Hubby probably won't be upset.
When I was a teenager I wanted a cat but my dad said no way, he'd toss it out. But I brought
one home anyway and ya know what? When I got my own apartment a few years later he wouldn't let
me take the cat. He was too attached to it. The cat adopted my dad as her new buddy. They are both
gone now but what a good memory.
Bring kitty inside. I bet hubby really won't mind.

Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 04:30 PM by Bridget Burke
Then, take him to the vet. He may already be fixed.

Do all you can to find his "owners." How about signs in the neighborhood? Because (1) they must be upset & (2) you need to be able to tell hubby that you tried!

Edited to add: Have him gaze into your husband's eyes, using the expression you captured in the photo. Soon, hubby will not think of him as just "another cat."

I'd be tempted to take him just because he's so beautiful. Without being able to check under the tail, my guess is that the cat is male because most orange kitties are.

How many cats do you already have? Sounds to me like he's already picked you guys to be his pets. Your husband will probably melt when he sees the kitty anyway.

You're smart to keep him separated from the others until he sees the vet.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

maybe he has witnessed something and it was hard on him emotionally. He is kinda mad about the situation but realizes there is nothing he can do about it. He just wants to live the rest of his days out in peace. Reread my original post...I do not know what I am. I just realized this when I started looking at the kitty threads on this site...I have always known cat's names but I did not realize that they could communicate thru the computer. A couple of people in the past months have started name my kitty threads and as soon as I saw the pics...the name was there. One I remember told me his name was Shadow and the other was Romeo (also said that Loverboy was ok) and now this one. The first thing I saw was the sad/mad look in his eye and how smart he is ...and then boom there it was...Merlin. That is all I know, weird huh?

56. LOL . . . she's a she, and she does like everyone, after she decides
to come out of hiding and meet them :P

She'll hide under the bed for a while as soon as new people show up, but after 1/2 an hour or so, curiosity gets the better of her and she'll come out and say hello. One quick move though and she'll run and hide again.

But with me, she's just a little attention sponge, she'll run up and throw herself at the ground and land on her back to beg for a belly rub :)

94. okay, I did a little better with the separate pics...
they are all 3 very happy and whatever happened before it is all okay now and the memories are too distant for me to get any details. Prince is well named and so is Osiris, they are okay with those names and have forgotten what their names are. Stinkadoodle (Stinky) real name is something like Amber or Ambrosia...but she has learned to live with Stinkadoodle. That is all I could get. They say that the past really does not matter any more and are at peace with it and are not putting out strong individual vibrations. They are "homogenized" so to speak...I think they will be okay with Merlin coming to live with them. You have a very happy family. Good luck and I will see you in the next kitty thread...:)

40. Maybe he has a microchip and you will be able to find the owners
I am doing the same thing as you are right now; feeding a stray who is living on my deck. Also an orange. This cat on your step is GORGEOUS.

Have you put a found cat ad on Petfinder?

67. good luck to you.
The one I am caring for, complete with electric heating pad on deck, is not tamed nor neutered. I am trying to tame him before I bring him in with my housecats. He is as feral as can be.

69. I have a two level table out there. Theere is a bottom shelf
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 10:39 PM by barb162
The table is about 6'long x 3' wide. I put a huge piece of clear heavy plastic on all sides except for one side, the smallest side which has an opening of about 3' wide. SO he can get out fast if he wants. There is a large piece of cardboard sitting on the shelf about a foor off the deck floor. On that I have a flannel throw, towels, etc. In the middle of that I have the electric heating pad which I keep at the lowest setting. For about 3 weeks in Decemeber I had it on a setting above the lowest as we were having a horrible cold wave. So the clear heavy plastic keeps a lot of the wind , snow, rain, etc, out. It is warmer in there than it is out on the deck. I bought him a flannel soft pet bed with sides about 6" high and I was planning on putting a towel stretched above it so that he could crawl in on the heating pad on the bed in there and stay a hell of a lot warmer. But he just won't use it. He WILL NOT USE IT. I had put it out there with the heating pad in it and he was so scared he stayed off the deck. So I put the old set up back with the towels and flannel throw and heating pad where things are flattish with just a little 3 inch rise around the heating pad and he went right back there. This guy is a real feral. I hae taken in other ferals and tamed them but this one is a real case. I have to take him to the vet soon but he needs to get a bit more tame before I dare try to put him in a cage. I let him in the kitchen for a few hours a day and when he wakes up from that heating pad, his ears are warm

With him just living in the junk in my shed and in the rolled up carpet I had on my front porch I couldnt let him stay there. I gotta call my vet and get a check up scheduled!

Hes still hiding out in the basement. He used the litter box so thats a good thing and I will be calling the vet tomorrow. I highly doubt he has his shots or is fixed. Good thing all my kitties are fixed just in case!

92. My mom has a Maine Coon.
My best cat was one that just wandered into our lives. She passed at age 17 of renal failure.
I have her ashes right next to me on my desk. She was an amazing creature. I hope this one brings you as much joy.

75. So does the fluffball have a name yet
Once the cat is named there is no going back. I wouldn't give a name to my first cat (who I found by a dumpster) until I tried for a few weeks to find his owners. But once I figured out a name for him, he was staying with me.

Abbott and I have been together now for two years!!!

I'd take him in a heartbeat - and I already have six cats living here.

I bet it'll take your husband maybe a day to warm up to this beast. If that long.

That'll teach them!!

78. Not a stray. Cats with that kind of fur could not be so
clean and neat (and PLUMP!) as a stray. Look around, put up signs, find the owner (who is no doubt worried sick).

His fur in the back is covered in burrs and is nasty. He needs a bath really bad and thats what I intend to do. I'm going to put a sign up in the post office today to see if anyone claims him.

moved last, my cat got lost for 66 days and lost 9 pounds, but I wanted him back. I just didn't know where he was....

Very healthy looking. The friendliness, too, suggests he isn't feral. Maybe you could post some signs in your neighborhood with this picture. Found cat, please call.
