Vehicle registration suspended for 1 parking ticket
I've lived in Wisconsin for over 5 years and got my first ticket in November at a parking meter on the UW campus- I was 10 minutes late. I forgot to care of it, and guess what, my vehicle registration is suspended.

Coming from Chicago, where I used to get parking tickets regularly, this seems really over the top. The parking fine has gone from $10 to $45. Fucking unbelievable.

2. Do you mean you weren't allowed to renew it?
Or did they tell you that your registration was no longer valid even though it hadn't reached the expiration date?

I've had trouble re-registering because of an unpaid parking ticket (although mine wasn't just an expired meter), so I suppose it would be reasonable if that was the case...

4. The registration expired and can't be renewed until
I pay the ticket. So I am now driving illegally.

6. I think that's how it works here (CA)
When you get your registration bill the amount of the ticket (plus a fee) is added to the registration fee. The DMV then sends the money back to the city that issued the ticket. However, if you dispute the ticket you can still register, but it will show up on the next registration bill unless it's resolved...

At most of the schools I've been to, on-campus tickets (and they are hyper-aggressive about ticketing) just get added on to your fee bill and get paid when you pay tuition - I bet a lot of students never even see them...

3. I hate fucking government.
Unless the government is taking care of people who cannot take care of themselves, restraining corporations, treating people for drug addictions (instead of imprisoning them) and protecting us.

Government of the government by the government, for the government.

5. That sort of thing happens
when taxes get cut. There's got to be another way to raise revenue. Unfortunately you've experienced one of those. Around here they're really ticket crazy at times.

7. when I lived in LA
I had a friend who moved in from Chicago and ignored all her parking tickets from LA, until they booted her.

tell me, would you pay the ticket if they didn't stop you from renewing your registration? how are they supposed to collect?
