Post your favorite song!!!
Alrighty folks, let's see your favorite song!! Share! :bounce:

H.

What's coming through is alive.
What's holding up is a mirror.
But what's singing songs is a snake
Looking to turn this piss to wine.

They're both totally void of hate,
But killing me just the same.

The snake behind me hisses
What my damage could have been.
My blood before me begs me
Open up my heart again.

And I feel this coming over like a storm again.
Considerately.

Venomous voice, tempts me,
Drains me, bleeds me,
Leaves me cracked and empty.
Drags me down like some sweet gravity.

The snake behind me hisses
What my damage could have been.
My blood before me begs me
Open up my heart again.

And I feel this coming over like a storm again.

I am too connected to you to
Slip away, to fade away.
Days away I still feel you
Touching me, changing me,
And considerately killing me.

Without the skin,
Beneath the storm,
Under these tears
The walls came down.

And the snake is drowned and
As I look in his eyes,
My fear begins to fade
Recalling all of those times.

I could have cried then.
I should have cried then.

And as the walls come down and
As I look in your eyes
My fear begins to fade
Recalling all of the times
I have died
and will die.
It's all right.
I don't mind.

I am too connected to you to
Slip away, to fade away.
Days away I still feel you
Touching me, changing me,

And considerately killing me.

1. Ben Folds, "Protection:"
Tourists wear their wallets in high places when abroad
So as not to be ripped off in ways to which they're not apprised
Lawyers write some goofy terms in letters to the future
So as not to get all screwed by methods here and after devised
So will I

And I guess I will protect myself from you
Sometimes I get so tickled I can't talk
And I will protect myself from you
I'll keep on reminding me
I'm always free to walk

You're not exactly what I'm looking for
You don't even know that when I've got it straight, now keep it in mind
No you're not what I was looking for
I just need a little more of what you've got a little bit
don't make me laugh

And I guess I will protect myself from you
Sometimes I get so tickled I just can't talk
but I will protect myself from you
I'll keep on reminding me
I'm always free to walk
always free
free
to
walk
(hey)

Whatever happens between you and me today probably will be OK
But won't bother me
anyway

And I guess I will protect myself from you
Sometimes I get so tickled I can't talk
but I will protect myself from you
And I'll keep on reminding me
I'm always free
to walk
free
F-R-E-E

You can't, you can't hurt me cause I don't care about you
I don't give a shit
I don't give a shit
about you
woah

The pussy - ass
sounds of white - people
playing jazz

Not really my favorite song, but the lyrics get to me.

11. It's from an EP called "Speed Graphic."
Ben released three awesome EPs in 2004, all of which are recommended over his last album, "Songs For Silverman," which was a steaming pile of suckitude.

2. It's a tie between "Ramble On" and "What is and What Should Never Be"
Both by of course, Led Zeppelin!

Ramble on

Leaves are falling all around,
It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged
For such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go,
The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain,
And with it pain,
And it's headed my way.
Ah, sometimes I grow so tired,
But I know I've got one thing I got to do,

*Ramble On,
And now's the time, the time is now
To sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world,
I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Got no time to for spreadin' roots,
The time has come to be gone.
And tho' our health we drank a thousand times,
It's time to Ramble On.

* Chorus

I ain't tellin' no lie.
Mine's a tale that can't be told,
My freedom I hold dear;
How years ago in days of old
When magic filled the air,
T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor
I met a girl so fair,
But Gollum, and the evil one crept up
And slipped away with her.
Her, her....yea.
Ain't nothing I can do, no.

* Chorus

Gonna ramble on, sing my song
Gotta keep-a-searchin' for my baby...
Gonna work my way, round the world
I can't stop this feelin' in my heart
Gotta keep searchin' for my baby
I can't find my bluebird!
I'd listen to my bluebird sing but I can't find my blue bird
A-keep-a ramblin' baby...

AND

"What Is And What Should Never Be"

And if I say to you tomorrow. Take my hand, child, come with me.
It's to a castle I will take you, where what's to be, they say will be.

Catch the wind, see us spin, sail away, leave today, way up high in the sky.
But the wind won't blow, you really shouldn't go, it only goes to show
That you will be mine, by takin' our time.

And if you say to me tomorrow, oh what fun it all would be.
Then what's to stop us, pretty baby. But What Is And What Should Never Be.

So if you wake up with the sunrise, and all your dreams are still as new,
And happiness is what you need so bad, girl, the answer lies with you.

Oh the wind wont blow and we really shouldn't go and it only goes to show.
Catch the wind, we're gonna see it spin, we're gonna...sail, little girl
do do do, bop bop a do-oh, my my my my my my yeah.
Everybody I know seems to know me well
but they're never gonna know that I move like hell.

3. Patti Smith - "Gloria"
Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine
meltin' in a pot of thieves
wild card up my sleeve
thick heart of stone
my sins my own
they belong to me, me

people say "beware!"
but I don't care
the words are just
rules and regulations to me, me

I-I walk in a room, you know I look so proud
I'm movin' in this here atmosphere, well, anything's allowed
and I go to this here party and I just get bored
until I look out the window, see a sweet young thing
humpin' on the parking meter, leanin' on the parking meter
oh, she looks so good, oh, she looks so fine
and I got this crazy feeling and then I'm gonna ah-ah make her mine
ooh I'll put my spell on her

here she comes
walkin' down the street
here she comes
comin' through my door
here she comes
crawlin' up my stair
here she comes
waltzin' through the hall
in a pretty red dress
and oh, she looks so good, oh, she looks so fine
and I got this crazy feeling that I'm gonna ah-ah make her mine

and then I hear this knockin' on my door
hear this knockin' on my door
and I look up into the big tower clock
and say, "oh my God here's midnight!"
and my baby is walkin' through the door
leanin' on my couch she whispers to me and I take the big plunge
and oh, she was so good and oh, she was so fine
and I'm gonna tell the world that I just ah-ah made her mine

and I said darling, tell me your name, she told me her name
she whispered to me, she told me her name
and her name is, and her name is, and her name is, and her name is G-L-O-R-I-A
G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria
G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria

I was at the stadium
There were twenty thousand girls called their names out to me
Marie and Ruth but to tell you the truth
I didn't hear them I didn't see
I let my eyes rise to the big tower clock
and I heard those bells chimin' in my heart
going ding dong ding dong ding dong ding dong.
ding dong ding dong ding dong ding dong
counting the time, then you came to my room
and you whispered to me and we took the big plunge
and oh. you were so good, oh, you were so fine
and I gotta tell the world that I make her mine make her mine
make her mine make her mine make her mine make her mine

G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria,
G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria

and the tower bells chime, "ding dong" they chime
they're singing, "Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine."

Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A,
Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A, G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria
G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria,
G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria,
G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria .

7. If you haven't got it
I highly recommend the 30th Anniversary reissue of "Horses" as it contains a bonus disk of Patti performing the whole album live in London in 2005, and fuck me it's incredible.

6. Einsturzende Neubauten - Stella Maris:
(Sung in German. Original lyrics at bottom of post)

I dream I'll meet you deep deep down
The deepest point on Earth, Mariana Trench, ocean bottom
Between Nanga Parbat, K 2 and Everest,
The crest of the world, there you'll be my banquet guest
Where nothing more can impede my vision
When you come I'll see you coming from the world's margin
Here there's nothing of interest
The ruins of Atlantis just
But of you not a trace
I don't think you're coming anymore
We missed each other in our dreams
You dream me, I you
Don't worry, I won't wake you
Before you wake up yourself
Across the ice towards the North Pole is where I'll expect you
Will be standing on the axis
From Tierra del Fuego in hard dream labour to the pole
There everything will revolve just around us
The Pole Star directly above me
This is the pole I'll wait here
Only I cannot see you cmoing from anywhere for miles around
I'm waiting at the wrong pole
We missed each other in our dreams
You dream me, I you
Don't worry, I won't wake you
Before you wake up yourself
Please, please don't wake me
Only as long as I dream do you exist...
Enlist in slumber on a ship
Course: Eldorado, Punt, that's your home
Wait on the coast, look on the horizon
Until I at last see your sails there
But the captain is always drunk
And mostly down below deck
I can't steer this ship in my wildest dreams
On a reef it springs a leak
In the North Sea it then sunk
An iceberg drives me back
I think I'll be waiting for long
Punt stays undiscovered
We missed each other in our dreams
You dream me, I you
Don't worry, I won't wake you
Before you wake up yourself
You dream me, I you
Don't worry, I'll find you
Before you wake up yourself
Collared in a doze I'll grab you
And pull you towards me
For you dream me, I you
I dream you, you me
We dream each other awake

Punt bleibt unentdeckt
Wir haben uns im Traum verpasst
Wir haben uns im Traum verpasst
Du träumst mich ich dich
Keine Angst ich weck' dich nicht
Bevor du nicht von selbs erwachst
Du träumst mich ich dich
Keine Angst ich finde dich
Am Halbschlafittchen pack' ich dich
und ziehe dich zu mir
Denn du träumst mich, ich dich
ich träum' dich, du mich
Wir träumen uns beide wach

10. Aimee Mann
This song is such a great metaphor for life in general....
********************************************************************

I've Had It

We made it down to New York
With everything intact
But as for getting back
It was Boo who made the joke
They don't give you any hope
But they'll leave you plenty of rope

And Dan came in from Jersey
He went to get the drums
And if Buddy ever comes
We can get it off the ground
I hope someone's coming down
Else I can't see hanging around

Oh, experience is cheap
If that's the company you keep
And a chance is all that I need
And I've had it

I've had it

So we all just started playing
And then something strange occured
Not a person stirred
Oh, it started out one way
But it turned out to be okay
And I felt somebody should say

Oh, experience is cheap
If that's the company you keep
And before you know that it's free
You've had it

You've had it

Like most amazing things
It's easy to miss
And easy to mistake
For when things are really great
It just means everything's in its place

When everything was over
And we loaded up the van
I turned and said to Dan
Dan, I guess this is our prime
Like they tell us all the time
Were you expecting some other kind

Oh, experience is cheap
If that's the company you keep
And I'll never get that disease
'Cause I've had it

I've had it

I guess I've had it...

12. The Rolling Stones-Gimme Shelter
Oh, a storm is threat’ning
My very life today
If I don’t get some shelter
Oh yeah, I’m gonna fade away

War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away

Ooh, see the fire is sweepin’
Our very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost it’s way

War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away

Rape, murder!
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away

Rape, murder!
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away

Rape, murder!
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away

The floods is threat’ning
My very life today
Gimme, gimme shelter
Or I’m gonna fade away

War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
I tell you love, sister, it’s just a kiss away
It’s just a kiss away
It’s just a kiss away
It’s just a kiss away
It’s just a kiss away
Kiss away, kiss away

13. At the moment, "Rock For Sustainable Capitalism" by Propagandhi
I fuckin' love that one rock video where
That fucking jack-ass mohawked millionaire prances around by far the worst sausage party on earth,
Where by mere chance he's caught on film shaking hands
With an incredibly diverse collection of patriotic skins
I like the message it sends (that fucking goof):
With a rebel yell, just do exactly what you're told. One million douche bags can't be wrong
When did punk rock become so safe?
You'll excuse me if I laugh in your face as I itemize your receipts and PowerPoint your balance sheets
I hear this year's Vans Warped Tour is "going green!"
I guess they heard that money grows on trees
Hope they ship all those shitty bands overseas like they did their factories
Music's power to describe, compel, renew
It's all a distant second to the offers you can't refuse
Remember when we used to believe
That music was a sacred place and not some fucking bank machine?
Not something you just bought and sold
How could we have been so naive?
Well, I think when all is said and done,
Just cause we were young, it don't mean we were wrong
And I'll rock back and forth on this two-bit hobbyhorse
'Til she splinters and gives way
I'll tend the flowers by her grave
And whisper her name
If anyone out there understands, can I please see a show of hands?
Just so I know I'm not insane
Ever get the feeling you've been played?
Well, that's rock for sustainable capitalism and you know,
We may face a scorched and lifeless earth,
But they're accountable to their shareholders first
That's how the world works

14. Because life is an "Endless Commercial..."
ENDLESS COMMERCIAL
From the 2004 Rainman Records release "Heretics & Privateers"
Words and music by John Kay

My name is not important, I’ve been sent to put an end To the wanking in the ranks of the disloyal opposition You’ve been heard to complain, you don’t like your status quo And you haven’t met your quota of spending, don’t you know Your mission is to conform and to consume You’re way behind now so get your ass started Where would we be if we all did what we wanted?
The wheels of industry would grind up to a halt Our factories in Mexico would surely feel the jolt Run though the maze and get your piece of cheese Don’t come to us if you wind up on your knees Deep down inside yes, you may be seething But we want you good and tired, just barely breathing

Modern life’s got you down? We got pills for all your ills All you gotta do is buy a lifetime supply of magic potions You won’t know what to feel, what is fake and what is real As they slowly take control of your mind and your emotions Until you finally tow the line You’re not exempt, no you won’t be forgotten Take it from me, we know how to push your buttons What you believe ain’t subject to debate We’ll let you know what to love and what to hate You’ll be confused morning noon and night We’ll keep your senses occupied till you're lobotomized We’ll entertain you till we drive you to drinking Did you believe we want you to start thinking?

We are the global merchants we have beads for all your needs To sell our way of life to the entire universe is our agenda Those who try to resist we will be targets on our list We’ll bombard ‘em with consumer goods until they finally surrender And learn to mend their frugal ways I know right now it may seem controversial But you’ll learn to love and live in the endless commercial Leave everything to us, trust me, we know best Just park the kids by the TV and we’ll do all the rest We’ll pull the strings behind the scene And let you all believe that this is really just a dream Should you wake up, screaming “how’d this come about?”
Just keep your mouth shut if you know a way out.
