My kid (18) just came in reeking of Lysol
disinfecting wipes, then got in the shower without even saying hello.

I wonder what the hell THAT's all about? :eyes:

6. It's funny, because he'll joke about drinking
and smoking (he does cigarettes as well as...you know...) and he KNOWS I know; but he can't stand to be seen in an inebriated condition.

I'm hoping it means he feels guilty about it, and this will only be a phase...

18. If they only stopped there.
It starts with Lysol and wipes, but soon enough they start in with Swiffers and Clorox Bleach Pens. They get hooked and graduate to exfoliants. I'm talking gangs of loofah-wielding teenagers. And you know what that leads to, right?

I'm just sayin'.... Make them research the laws in your area.... I wish I had.

Huffing? Good grief I hope not.

Something else?

Not everything is centered on altering the mind.

In the late 1970s, I and my gearhead bud drained a few tanks for go juice. 440 Magnums and hot-rodded 351CJs take a lot of fuel. Siphoning tanks tends to leave an unpleasent aroma.

And, of course, horseplay and a bottle of perfume lifted from a nearby female might lead someone to try to "cover up".

Hope it's not serious.

Edit: The horseplay might have involved Lysol? Hope hope

It's easy. Growing up most often shoeless in Houston it was fairly common to step in some form of poop. Washing it off at someones house-side faucet was the usual treatment, not Lysol.

48. I believe him...
But I wouldn't be surprised if he'd been smoking pot, too...just because he was averse to direct eye contact. Something was up...

Somewhere along the line he'll probably tell me himself. He periodically does these "confessionals". I listen to what he has to say, then tell him honestly what I think and what my experiences have been with regard to drugs and alcohol in an effort to encourage other recreational activities. I've made it clear that I won't tolerate illegal activity under my roof.

The fact that he does eventually 'fess up is heartening to me. When he told me about this older woman he'd had an affair with, I was able to convince him to get checked for STDs (negative, thank god), and to tell the woman to take a hike, because she was sucking him into her soap opera lifestyle.

I do worry about pot, though. Yeah, I know most of us all did it at one point or another without lasting harm; but I've also seen a number of people who are close to me change after log-term heavy use. It's like their ambition is drained from their system. No, it doesn't happen to everybody; but it can happen.

Ah well...I guess worry-wart is part of the parental job description. :)

But don't discount the usefulness of being hard to convince sometimes. Even when you think the story is true, go ahead and bore in a bit. Do the Columbo routine, or whatever works for you (I'm a Raymond Chandler fan). Keep in practice, at least.

Mine is 10. When I think of the crap I pulled in my teen years... :scared:

I bought him Drivers Ed classes last summer. My personal feeling is that he's not mature enough to be behind the wheel by himself...he's got a few lingering anger issues. He's working on them, though; and getting better.

He walks a lot and takes Metro when necessary.

I Played Football and was in the Musicals and Student Government and was in the Band and was a "Head" so I had lots of parties....

My parents would surely be imprisoned in this day and age. My High School parties were legendary, really, some twelve years after I graduated, one of the Baby Sitters of my twin half brothers was a student at the High School I attended and she said that people still talked about this crazy guy from the 70s that threw these parties that people came to from all around the county - I was that Crazy Guy....

My Mom used to score me weed and when she moved out, gave me the keys to her car and apartment. I was 15, I drove four years before getting a license. Both parents found it convenient for me to drive when I was 14, I didn't drive drunk though until I was 15....

And people wonder why I didn't get married until I was 35, and didn't have kids until I was 38.......

My Kids are 7 and 5, I have the feeling I may overcompensate for my exceptionally loose upbringing
