I think Ishtar is brilliant

Sure, it was a fairly average comedy. But because it had Hoffman and Beatty people expected this amazing genius. And because of the expectation / reality disparity, it was shitcanned. It was a wholly acceptable comedy of its genre (because there were so many songwriters lost in the desert comedies :D) for its time.

Besides, it made my dad laugh a lot, and I laughed a lot when I watched it with him. So to me, it kinda rules. ;)

What got me is how many people thought it was bad because Hoffman and Beatty couldn't sing. Hey! They were supposed to be bad! That's the joke!
