I saw something odd today
We had a disaster drill at school. We walked all the kids in the school up to the church on the corner and sat there in the pews while we waited for the pretend disaster to be settled. The cops were there and blocked off the streets (I guess part of the drill is making the neighbors wonder what catastrophe had caused the evacuation of their neighborhood school :eyes: .)

That was pretty bizarre, sitting in a church with an entire public school. And all the kids were silent. (In fact, they were very good).

Anyhow, while we were sitting in this church, I was looking around and taking in all the religious stuff. Seeing as I am so seldom in a church anymore, it was rather interesting for me. Well right away I notice all these stars of David around the church. Then I realized that these were not just any old stars of David, but those were Israeli flags!

There were a bunch of them. One on the altar, one on the podium, another one on a little altar to the side and more on the back wall. I felt like I was in Israel! Well a few of my co-workers were giving me looks and motioning at all these flags, like they thought maybe I knew wtf they were plastered all over this church for. And sure enough, several said something to me later. (I am kind of known as the political junkie on the staff :) )

One of my co-workers asked me if Sharon had died. Another said she wondered if this was actually a synagogue until she saw the crucifix on the wall. Well the sign out front says "The Solid Rock Church". I picked up a brochure and there was no mention of denomination for this church. Here is their website:
http://tsrcministries.com/

So what's the deal? Is this some kind of weird fundie church that buys into all that Israelite stuff in the bible? Any ideas?

1. Maybe they're Jews for Jesus.

2. Hey you want to check them out on Sunday?
The preacher was a nice little old lady and she invited us all to come back on Sunday and said we should bring our friends and family.

I'll pick you up early. :)

3. I'll be ready at six.
Do you have your Kleenex ready? Or do they require that? Maybe I'll need it.

5. LOL There was kleenex on the pew where I was sitting!
Took me back to my parochial school days.

I told the kids afterwards that they were very well behaved but some of them had hoods on their heads and I thought that was kind of disrespectful in a church. Then I told them about how women had to cover their heads in the Catholic church when I was a kid. A couple of the boys then put kleenex on their heads. Little smart asses.

4. Some fundy churches proclaim a strong allegiance with Israel.
But what often is unclear is whether or not this allegiance is spiritual, religious/moral, or political.

I believe in a continuation of the Judean/christian covenant, but I do not hold any kind of political allegiance to the state of Israel. Frankly, I think they need to be slapped upside the head, and asked "what part of 'love thy neighbor' DON'T you understand??"

I dunno. Seems more to me like kissing up to the preacher's kid, just to make sure you get a good seat on the bus to heaven.

6. So I take it there are no Israeli flags in your church, Rev?
My sister is Jewish. I am going to ask her if they have Israeli flags in her synagogue.

It was kinda creepy.

Now I am laughing thinking about that good seat on the bus to heaven. Hell I will probably be tied to the back of that bus and dragged down the road.

7. I'm not even happy that there's an American flag in it.
I have major issues with anyone proclaiming a God/Country allegiance. What people forget is that God chose Israel "to be a light to the nations." That means they carry the flashlight, so that the rest of the world can find its way to God. Christianity got grafted into the covenant thru Jesus.
