Okay, I Gotta Say This: Phil Collins Kicks Ass!
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 08:56 PM by WritingIsMyReligion
Oh, my God... Any other Phil fans have his Serious Hits...Live! CD? It is STUNNING. Oh, my God. I'm listening to it now for about the 50th time this week, and I love it! I cannot stop listening to it! Pretty much all of these songs are BETTER live than they are in their original studio format. Like right now, it's "Who Said I Would"--freaking awesome song! If you like "In The Air Tonight," this live version kicks butt--Phil's drum solo is arresting. And the 7 min, 14 second version of "Sussudio" has the best dance beat, seriously...

I can't pick one favorite song! They're all so fucking good!

Playlist:

1. "Something Happened on the Way to Heaven"--Great kickoff to the album; one of my favorite songs
2. "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)"--Vocals rock here
3. "Who Said I Would"--Addictive; I have to sing along
4. "One More Night"--Again, kick-ass vocals, and the extended alto sax break (a good 1.5 mins long!) at the end of the song is terrific
5. "Don't Lose My Number"--Upbeat and danceable, great drums and guitar, another one you have to belt out with Phil
6. "Do You Remember"--Very arresting, great vocals, makes you feel something in your soul
7. "Another Day in Paradise"--Great lyrics and passionate vocals; this version is fairly haunting
8. "Separate Lives"--A very, well, sweet song--good duet between Phil and his female backup singer
9. "In The Air Tonight"--The song most people buy the album for--drums are never better than right here, and the whole song is just...ethereal
10. "You Can't Hurry Love"--I love this song as Phil covers it; at 2 mins 54 seconds it is very short, though
11. "Two Hearts"--Great lyrics; really makes you feel content, even if you're not "attached"
12. "Sussudio"--I always thought the studio version of this song was rather tacky. The live version, however, really is 7 mins and 14 seconds of addictiveness. THE song to sing along with and dance to on the album; I can't sit still when I hear it.
13. "A Groovy Kind of Love"--Really one of the only "traditional" ballads here, but it is a great song, with good vocals; makes you feel rather warm and fuzzy, in a good way
14. "Easy Lover"--Whoever does the backup vocals here needs to be commended, as they are just awesome along with Phil's; the electric guitar here is rocking; another song you can't hear and sit still through
15. "Take Me Home"--The traditional closing song, but this version is....awesome. Just awesome. The audience chanting "Taaaaaaakeeee Meeeeee Hooommmeee" with Phil for at least a minute at the end is great, just great... 8 mins 39 secs of bliss!

The whole album weighs in at more than 70 mins long...but it's so worth a listen!

*********************************************************************

Well, okay, I've ranted enough.... Just had to get that out of my system. Now we're on, let's see, "Another Day in Paradise"--Such a good song!

:loveya:, Phil!!

:D :D :D :D

1. I have it
But my favorite is still "In the Air". But in terms of poverty, "Another Day in Paradise" speaks for many, not just S. Africa.

2. Yes, my favorite is "In the Air," too,
for Phil's drumming, but the best lyrics, concept-wise, I think, belong to "Another Day."

3. Saw him in concert for that tour
Was a wonderful show and I have the album. It's good but...

Phil Collins has not done it for me in many years. I have tried hard to like his albums past"...But Seriously" unfortunately I just can't do it. I'm not sure whose tastes changed, his or mine, but he has just gone too mellow, easy listening, mushy, elevator music. But back in the day, Phil rocked hard. Oh well...rant over.
