1. I hate it!
I have a 2000 Firebird, I love the body style. It killed me when they stopped making Camaros and Firebirds. I hope they don't bring back the Firebird and make it ugly.

2. Is this some sort of theme now?
To make all new cars look like a 1971 'cuda?

3. No wonder GM is in the dumper.
That thing is fugly. Memo to GM: take a cue from Ford and Dodge and design an updated '69 Camaro. Guaranteed sales. Yeah, its derivative, but who cares. The object is to sell cars.

5. I hope that's a concept and not a production model.
Hopefully they'll clean it up before production begins. This is Auto Show time, so lots of concepts are out.

7. I hope so too
It's so clunky, and not in a good way.

9. That IS an updated '69 Camaro...
as far as I can tell, anyway, from little details like the shape of the side windows, the "coke-bottle" effect on the rear fenders, the hint of a spoiler lip on the decklid, etc. It's a little less obviously retro than, say, the new Mustang, but the design cues ARE there.

10. I can see it in the rear quarter, but it's not enough to sell.
I can't see people plunking down money on that thing in droves. But, as a concept, it's interesting.

25. My last car was a Firebird too!
I used to have a 1995. Then I got a 2000 because I had to have the new body style.

They stopped making them because they converted the plant in Canada to make SUVs. (The Pontiac Vibe.) How stupid is that? No wonder GM is floundering.

28. The Vibe? Last I checked...
...that was made at NUMMI (New United Motor Manufacturing Inc.) in Fremont, CA. NUMMI is the GM-Toyota joint plant that build the Corolla and other vehicles built on the Corolla platform (like the Matrix/Vibe twins). It's definitely not an SUV at all, it's a compact econo-wagon. The Toyota Matrix is made in Canada, though. The new Pontiac Torrent mini-SUV is Canadian, but that's built at CAMI (Suzuki-GM joint venture). I used to work at the switch supplier for these and other plants, a Japanese company in Battle Creek, MI.

From what I've been able to Google, the Camaro/Firebird plant (Ste. Therese) closed completely in 2002.

11. Anyone esle here getting sick of the "big wheel" mania?
This isn't even one of the worst ones...all the concept cars these days have, what, 15-series tires on wheels approaching a yard in diameter. They look like goddamn motorcycle wheels & tires.

I think it looks just plain stupid, especially on a large sedan like the new Audi S8 (anyone seen that?). And I can just imagine the ride quality.

12. Its an attempt to get gen "y" into the mix
They all grew up with hot wheels and those trikey "Big Wheel" contraptions; that's the direct ancestor for the big wheel look; plus 20 inchers are hip beyond reason to the hip hopsters....

14. And it's another maintainance expense
A friend of mine hit a curb and bent up the expensive rims on her SUV, it cost her a pretty penny to replace them. Meanwhile I've never spent anything extra on my (boring stock) wheels even though leftykid's Dad has never seen a curb he can't hit. :grr:

As long as this trend continues, it's inevitable.

This looks like a bad Mustang imitation, IMHO. I used to work for a GM supplier, and even
I now drive a Toyota. Ughhh!
