3. UNBELIEVER! You must be flogged......
To wit:

Notre Dame barely lost to USC, yet they lost their bowl game to an Ohio State team that Texas beat.

Oregon was the runner up in the Pac-10, yet they lost to a 7-4 Oklahoma team that Texas blasted off of the field.

Fresno State scored a bucketload on USC, yet they lost THEIR bowl game to Tulsa.

Logic dictates that Texas had the tougher schedule, and kicked the shit out of everyone thay played. USC goes DOWN tonight, my friend.

And I don't get that corn-growing hayseed crack about Nebraska. We didn't even play them this year.

15. Notre Dame-Ohio State, excellent example of how good the rankings work.
That BCS computer program is pretty darn good, huh? Predicted the outcome of number 4 against number 5 in that Notre Dame-Ohio State game perfectly.

All your strength of schedule arguments are just anecdotes, the BCS computer figures all of that, and it says USC is number 1.

You mean the livestock-lovin conr-growers are only in Nebraska? I thought ya have to grow the corn to feed the hogs and the steers and the chickens, and thats what they do all over that big-12 conference.

17. The BCS computers had UT at #1.
It was the human polls that kept USC ranked higher. UT had them on strength of schedule. From a purely numeric standpoint, UT is the better team.

We'll settle it on the field either way. I'll take yer 20 points, by the way. We were averaging 51 all season long against better defenses than USC's.

They act like they deserve a national championship every year. If they actually win one, life in this town will be insufferable. All the t-shirt fans will be out.

To be honest I really don't care who wins. I just want a good game. Plus, you can bleed maroon for a night because you're not a Longhorn really. ;) I can't say "hook 'em Horns" and mean it. I just can't.

But Fran did not really use Reggie to his full potential. And with the way Fran used the talent he had Reggie tried to do to much and got in trouble and then he would struggle. This new guy was recruited for Fran's offence and so we will see a difference in how he is utilized.

I'll be pullin' for them myself.
My cousin Mario was a third string QB for them back '86-88 or thereabouts. I still giggle thinking about the time when I saw him when I was on leave (Navy) and he told me that he was in Sports Illustrated. This was 1987. He pulled out an issue of SI and there you could see the back of his jersey. Of course it was a sideline shot and he was in a sea of other players. I believe the article was on the coach specifically.

Mario works for the state of Texas nowadays. In Austin. He came up to visit us back in 1998 with his wife and my aunt. He even had a beer with us. When he was in school he NEVER drank. Consummate athlete and whatnot.

I'm sure he's all over this game. Isn't today an unofficial holiday for most if not all of Texas?

I just saw an old post about Morenz on google. People discussing "where are they now?" Says Morenz married the richest girl in the world. LOL.

Good for him.

Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 01:01 PM by XNASA
..and Notre Dame lost to USC by 3 in a disputed finish.

So the Longhorns should win by 14.

It's my opinion that nobody in the country could beat OSU judging by the way they played against ND. The PAC 10 and Big 12 play soft schedules. The SEC and The Big 10 are the only conferences that matter.

My prediction, USC 27 - UT 20.

Texas deserves to lose after running up the score on Colorado the way they did.

38. Yes, it is the same song. It was given new words for a
skit the students performed at a campus musical event. Everyone liked it so much they made them perform it over and over all night. The university president was known for saying "The eyes of Texas are upon you" as an inspiration toward excellence and high standards amongst the students. It's a song that arose fortuitously rather than intentionally being written to be the school song, which I think makes it all the more special and fun.

53. Your're serious?? This USC team is the best in NCAA history!
I see the Trojans running up a huge lead early on, then Texas will come back only to fall short at games end.

My son invited me over to watch it on his 62" HDTV. It should be a great game.

54. C'mon man, USC will score, but they ain't runnin' up no big lead.
Not on the UT defense. And remember that UT can score, too. They actually averaged a point per game MORE than the USC offense this season.

Reggie Bush scares the hell out of me, and he should, but Vince is gonna be pissed about his Heisman snub. Don't be surprised to see him strike the pose if he gets into the end zone, and he will.

62" HDTV? Damn, that's nice. Enjoy!

I could start watching pre-game stuff right NOW. Oh, and don't burst. Then there'd be Texasgal stuff everywhere and we'd have to clean up.

61. Here's a little taste to get you started:
http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/longhorns/entries/2006/01/02/selvin_young_to_start_at_tailback.html#comment-254301

Even though he has started only four games and none since the Oklahoma State game, Selvin Young will get the starting nod at tailback for the Rose Bowl.

Freshman Jamaal Charles confirmed that Young would start against Southern California but added that he and sophomore Ramonce Taylor would also see time in the backfield.

69. HAHAHAHA! I don't have a dog in this hunt, but SoCal is unbeatable...
Some enterprising NFL owner, maybe the Houston Texans or the SF 49ers, should just fire their whole team, draft the entire USC team, and start them all. They'd probably do great.

USC has the best running back, quarterback, O-line and secondary in college sports. They cannot be beat. Period.

70. How about we play the game anyway and see?
Notre Dame ALMOST did it. Fresno State gave them all they wanted. UT will crack them.

72. Like I said, I don't have a dog in this hunt...
In fact, I'd love to see Texas win, just to deflate a few egos. I just don't think it can happen.

GO FREDDIE!!! Give 'em hell!! I scolded him when he chose USC over UCLA after high school, but promised to root for him anyway. He promised to do his best and make us proud of him. We both kept our promises :D
